The inquest should not take long. They vastly over estimated the interest in their product and priced it beyond the means of half the population of the areas they are hosting games! Rugby League is an exciting game and with the exception of 2 or 3 clubs Super League is a very good watch that is popular all over the country. What the RFL cannot grasp is that it is a minority sport and they will never be able to compete with Football, Cricket and Rugby Union or the NRL where is it is the national game. There is going to be a **** storm soon as clubs will hit the wall. The Rugby League World Cup was a perfect oppourtunity to engage with new fans in areas where clubs need a boost in attandences. Why on earth would City members not be offered a free ticket for NZ v Jamaica and then a discount code emailed to them a few days after the game for a discounted Hull or Rovers season ticket? There are 15,000 members there who could help to deliver a big crowd and spend some money in the stadium. Im going to Wales v PNG for hospitality because it is free and loosely connected to work but would not spend more than a fiver to watch Greece get dry bummed by England. You can see better games at West Hull in the National Conference.
If RL is a 'an exciting game and a very good watch' how come it still hasn't caught on beyond the M62 corridor?
Because the rest of the country are obviously "stupid people " hope this helps and hope you are feeling a lot better sir.
I dont like rugby but surely from a economic point of view And if youre a pro in one surely you can be a pro in another They should merge super league and union and have one league The attendances would be higher More players Quality etc Bigger world cup
I am thank you and the rest of the country is a lot more intelligent than people give them credit for. UTT.
What is the game they will be playing? Saracens don’t get bigger crowds than FC. Their stadium only holds 10,500.
They get just about the lowest crowds in union as it happens. Leicester Tigers get the highest, 20,000 average. Bath and Gloucester get about 13,000 and 14,000. Which is quite a proportion of their populations. Nearly 14% in Bath’s case. Which would be over 36,000 in Hull.
It has. Around 50% of the audience for Friday night Super League games on SKY are southern based subscribers according to SKY the last report I saw. Unfortunately there are not really any clubs to support south of Doncaster/Sheffield. The Broncos owner has pi**ed off around 75% of their fans from 5 years ago and they are now down to 1000 if lucky. The other clubs have been formed in stupid areas such as Cornwall and South Wales with no consideration for where most of the other teams in the league are located and the costs of travel, not to mention they are part time players who are at work Monday morning after a nice little trip out from Workington to Cornwall! They generally have no trouble getting viewrs to watch on TV which I guess is why IMG have got involved and will try and market the agmes via Amazon Prime or another streaming service. For an example of why this sport is failing check out the Leigh club who today announced they are changing from Centurions to Lepoards with this badge which appears to have been created in 4 and a half minutes using microsoft paint. I have a feeling it is an attention seeking wind up, but even so is that the way a pro sports club should be behaving? The sport is dying I'm afraid. https://www.facebook.com/leighrlfc/
Rugby League World Cup on course to break attendance record, say organisers Aaron Bower please log in to view this image Rugby League World Cup organisers remain confident this year’s event will be the best-attended in history and have defended the pricing strategy that has come under scrutiny during the opening week of the competition. Almost 100,000 supporters have attended the first seven games of the tournament. While there have been some successes, including more than 43,000 at St James’ Park to watch England defeat Samoa, other group games – including the 5,400 that watched New Zealand face Lebanon – have attracted gates that have left organisers openly disappointed. There were 458,483 tickets sold for the 2013 tournament, the best on record. However, the event’s chief executive, Jon Dutton, said on Thursday that figure will be beaten. “We’re close to already exceeding that,” he said. “There are certain milestones along the way, the 458,000, which would exceed 2013, the women’s [football] European Championships, which was around 571,000, is the next milestone, which we’re confident about.” Supporters have queried why some fixtures, including New Zealand v Jamaica in Hull ton Saturday, have tickets on sale for as high as £75. But the competition is, by and large, affordable compared with club rugby league. Every group game has tickets available for as cheap as £25 for adults, with some as low as £15. Despite the criticism, Dutton said there has not been a game in the opening week where the lowest-priced category of tickets has sold out. The message is clear from organisers: affordable tickets are there. Salford duo Marc Sneyd and Andy Ackers are set to win their first caps after being named in England's 19-man squad for Saturday's Group A fixture with France in Bolton. The pair were left out of Shaun Wane's team for the opening game, a 60-6 rout of Samoa in Newcastle last Saturday, but will get their chance at the University of Bolton Stadium as the coach makes full use of his squad. Wigan second rower Kai Pearce-Paul, who was 18th man at St James' Park, and St Helens forward Joe Batchelor will also make their Test debuts, while John Bateman returns after serving a three-match ban. Shaun Wane said at Tuesday's press conference that he had yet to decide whether to rest his captain, Sam Tomkins, who is likely to be one of the two players to drop out of the squad, with Jack Welsby moving to full-back and George Williams taking over the captaincy. Victory over France, who opened their campaign with a 34-12 win over Greece in Doncaster on Monday, would effectively secure a place in the knockout stages for England, with the final group game against Greece to come. No. It is a football city which sells out their season passes year after year no matter what division they are in. Wish we were like that.
You're wasted on here, I'm sure Gloucester and Wasps will be in touch with you anon. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
