With you on that Maestro, very sad indeed.

I was looking after my second granddaughter aged 5 months today, how lucky I am.

We should take nothing for granted. <ok>

Words seem just so inadequate at times.

As someone who was blessed with a beautiful baby daughter three weeks ago, I simply cannot imagine what he's going through now...

Truly awful for him and his family I wish him well for the future as a parent I can only imagine what it must be like to go from the massive high to come crashing down to this awful low.

brings back memories of our very own bryan gunn playing at blackburn the day after he lost his daughter francesca. all our hearts go out to billy. i can't even begin to imagine what he is going through. it also puts all the nonsense that SOME footballers FEEL they are going through into stark perspective <ok>

In this particular case, his actions speak far louder than any words.

Absolutely awful. Reminds me of our own Mr Gunn taking to the field after losing his little girl. Bravery and comitment on a level that hopefully none of us will ever understand.

Saw he played against Middlesborough last night and relevealed a message. Good to know that the ref showed common sense not to book him.

Whilst I agree wholeheartedly with all the sentiments expressed here, I can't help wondering if the referee might be in trouble for not carrying out the letter of the law!

    Thoughts anyone!

I sincerely hope he wont be Dave. If he does get in trouble, then his 'bosses' should hang their heads in shame.

Booking players for taking off their shirts is the most stupid law in the rule book <ok>

Agreed, it is stupid. But the law allows the ref to apply common sense. As in UK law, there must be a matter of public policy - where the law shouldn't be applied as the outcome is stupid.

I totally agree, JWM, and I was hesitant to raise the issue on such a sensitive thread, but the question remains, when does a rule become impotent?

Referees unfortunately aren't allowed to use common sense these days! We see it week in and week out. The players know the rules and yet still flout them much to their managers annoyance I shouldn't wonder. To be booked for something like that and then receive a second yellow for something else during the game is truly stupid! <ok>

Hopefully something positive can come of it such as a better awareness of infant deaths and better support for the parents, just as it did with the work Bryan did to raise money in the fight against luekaemia.

Some things are much bigger than petty club rivalries and make you realise that football has the power to change lives and bring people together.
