    Match Preview;

Reading come to Loftus Road a place and a point above us, in 3rd with 22 points.
Lucas João is their top scorer, with 3 goals, closely followed by Tom Ince and Tom McIntyre with 2. In total, 10 of their players have scored at least 1 this year, compared to 9 of our players, including Seny Dieng. They did add some experienced firepower to their squad in September, with the signing of Andy Carroll on a free transport.

As for us, only one major bit of news. Top scorer and one of our two stand out players is gone for a few weeks. Willock pulled up on Tuesday night, and varied reports have put him out for a few weeks or even beyond Christmas. He's just retured after surgery on his hamstring, so I'm worried that he could be out for a while, or should I say, he should be out for a while to ensure he doesn't return and do it again straight away. There are also concerns over Seny Dieng, who has a thigh injury. I feel this has happened to us a lot, with key players getting injured and derailing our season. Given this, and the opposition we are facing, it will be a big test on Friday night. Time for Roberts and Dykes to step up and chip in with some goals.

    Team News
QPR: Chris Willock is out, while Seny Dieng's availability has been rated as 'touch and go' by Mick Beale. The game comes too soon for Taylor Richards, who is now back in training.

Reading: Ovie Ejaria and Andy Yiadom may return, but Baba Rahman, Shane Long, Dejan Tetek, Scott Dann, Femi Azeez, Naby Sarr and Liam Moore will all miss out.

    Pre-match Talk
Mick Beale (QPR head coach): “The most-important thing for me is getting three points at home. I was really disappointed with the Blackpool result; the chances were there.

“It’s important we put on a nice performance at home for our fans. It’s not so much of us against Reading at this stage of the season, it is more about us getting our home form right.”

Paul Ince (Reading manager): “It is a quick turnaround, these players will give what they can, they are working hard and we’ll keep committing ourselves against QPR like we do every game.

“We’ll go and play our game, we are in a good place at the moment, and we’ll see what we can get out of it when we go to Loftus Road.”

    ...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!!

If Willock is out can see a 3-5-2 coming
    Dieng/Archer
    Dunne-Balogen-JCS
    Laird-Steff-Field-Chair-Paal
    Roberts-Armstrong

I was thinking the same, except I'd bolster the midfield 3 with Amos, Steff and Field. Chair off Roberts up top.

Chair and Willock have looked so threatening when running at defenders. Willock is gone for a while, so surely we still need Chair to get the ball and move it forward. My concern is that a midfield of Amos, Steff and Field will do a lot of passing but not much going forward, and Roberts and Armstrong will get frustrated due to the lack of service.

Amos gets forward and, along with our flying fullbacks, plus Chair and Roberts, that would be ok imo.
Chair could drop off Roberts into the 10 slot and receive the ball there.

Think I misunderstood your original post, and thought you were suggesting Chair should be off the pitch with Roberts up front. Roberts up front with Chair playing off him sounds splendid.

Armstrong picked up a bang on his thigh playing for the U21's last week (5 goals in 2 games) I think it was. Not sure if he's fit again or not.

If Seny is out I am not sure that I would automatically select Archer above Mahoney.

    Seny/Mahoney
    Laird-Balogun-ClarkeSalter- Paal
    Roberts-Johansen-Field-Amos-Chair
    Dykes

A year ago who would have believed that we would have been selecting our best eleven without Dickie.

    Same system 4-3-3.
Dykes in the middle and Roberts on the left.
Changing to a 3-5-2 would not be a good thing!

It's a good thing if it means not having to start Dykes.

He just needs a goal while wearing hoops Col. I like having him up front as at least it means we have someone in the final third that can win duels and keep us on the attack. Roberts is not a good replacement in that position and thus far from limited opportunities Armstrong has flattered to deceive (still early days).

When Dykes came on against Sheffield United he failed to control or hold up one ball.
    I just don't rate him.

Obviously a goal would help his confidence, but the two for Scotland seem to have made no difference.

But be fair. He was on for 5 minutes in one game and 35 in the other. The miss was disappointing but at last he was on target whereas Roberts wasn't. Needs a bit of luck for sure but not much else. Speaking of which when did we last get a penalty?

Of Reading's defeats, they have conceded in 7, 9 and 11 minutes.
I hope Bealey's spotted that ie get at them from the off.

He's apparently doing alright for them. We obviously didn't play to his strength(s) whatever they were.
Can't even begin to imagine him in our team at the moment.

Such an understated guy, he could lull you into thinking he's laid back, but you just know he isn't. Really impressed with him
