I stood for 30 mins in the rain in our.village to say tara to Chris Chilton on the day of his funeral, but I saw him play and talked to him many times, drank with him in our local pub years ago, but would I stand for hours in a queue to see the Queen off, no, I never met her, so why would I?

Turns out David Beckham was offered a chance to bypass the queue by a MP. All MPs had the chance to pay their respects before the hall was opened to the public, they then had another opportunity to go in with 4 guests without queuing.

Edit. Posted this to show how on this occasion David Beckham has done the right thing, not to get into other things and politics. Leave it at that on this thread.

And still they come with a decision when to have to say 'I'm sorry no more', indeed people are being asked not to travel.

I've watched a good bit of the live feed from the lying in state and what has struck me are a few things... above all obviously the love people had for the Queen. Every nation, creed and colour of society have come to say thank you... its very moving for me at least... some uncomfortable in bowing or curtseying, some just stopping for a second and moving on, very proud parents of children who have stood by them for up to 22 hours to pay their respects. I wonder what goes through the minds of the foreign 'dignitaries' who stand on the side elevated looking and knowing that these people have been coning now for 4 days and keep coming...

Interesting read today if you fancy it (not sure how accurate it is given they incorrectly use ‘the’ before Magna Carta, but interesting nevertheless)

Hmm. I'll spend around half an hour as an ambivalent royalistst in respect to ER II's 70 commitment to our parliamentary constitution.

It was an innings which surpassed even Boycott.

    She did us proud.

Now can we move onto the other things going on in the world that doesn't involve a beefeater and a silly hat ?

I'll spend most of the day on it, along with most of the Commonwealth, I enjoy the history, spectacle, pride, dignity, respect, pomp and circumstance of all of it. GSTQ. GSTK.

Don't think Charlie watched On The Buses or he'd know the correct spelling like we do.

Whatever you think about the Royals, the funeral processions are bloody impressive.

Just my thought too, we can certainly organise an event which few countries can match.

Went to Beverley Minster for the screening of the funeral service from Westminster Abbey, felt as if I was there in person, everyone joined in the singing etc. and the setting is very similar (as used for tv programmes like Victoria). Very moving. RIP

Beverley Minster should get way more recognition than it does. Incredible building (even to me as an athiest - well the rules are 'no religion ta').
