Tremendous turnout and very moving. It had everything, pomp, ceremony and the crowd quickly yanked the rebel off his grandstand

    Pity, no morals

Edit: Police Scotland have since confirmed that a 22-year-old man had been arrested "in connection with a breach of the peace on the Royal Mile."

mine of the things I read the other day was that the King signed a declaration, as previous monarchs have done, to hand over the earnings of the royal estate in exchange for a royal grant from they government. The grant was mentioned to be £85m per year. The earnings of the estates was said to be around £300m per year. That would mean that the royal family earn this country over £200m every year. News to me. No idea how accurate the figures are but we’re taken from a news site

I've seen that too. Something @Chunksafc posted the other day detailed some of the figures. I don't particularly understand finance so I'm sure things are more complicated than I think they are but this and other things I've read (like the money indirectly generated by things like the jubilee) certainly make me think that the monarchy isn't the drain on resources that the anti-monarchy lot make out. I've read a fair bit of their literature now and their argument seems to be full of holes, to me.

The fact check website i posted does have a few holes, like inheritance tax etc, but I've discovered that whilst it's true they don't pay it, it was a benefit granted by the government.

It's not like they wrote the rule themselves.

The one thing I've taken from this all is the opportunity to learn a lot more about our history, monarchy, rules, finance etc and am trying to get views from all sides.

    It's actually been quite fascinating

I think its important to with subjects like this (or any subject, to be honest) to understand what 'the other side' of the argument is.

Sadly when you need a "grown up" conversation we have witnessed how easy it is to be hijacked by the press to manipulate the answer (Brexit being a fine example). I think we have seen that in terms of "world coverage" the monarchy certainly has given us this.

Totally agree with that. This complete refusal to even consider any other point of view that seems to be fashionable now surely just makes things worse.
