John Terry to face police investigation over race allegations

Terry's side fell to their second Premier League loss of the season at Loftus Road
The Metropolitan Police have launched a formal investigation into allegations that Chelsea captain John Terry racially abused QPR's Anton Ferdinand.

Terry, 30, has categorically denied aiming a racist slur at defender Ferdinand during Chelsea's 1-0 loss at Loftus Road on 23 October.

The Police spent a week "assessing" a complaint from a member of the public before launching their investigation.

The Football Association are also looking into the incident.

Some viewers claimed video replays from the match at Loftus Road showed Terry using racist language, while the Football Association said it had received a complaint.

A Metropolitan Police statement said: "Police were notified of an incident on Sunday October 23 involving alleged racial abuse. This is currently being investigated by officers from Hammersmith and Fulham."

    More to follow.

Surely if JT was innocent Anton would have come out early and cleared up this mess. There must be something to it now that the police have launched a formal investigation after talking to Anton. This looks very bad for JT and surely if he is found guilty he would be finished as a footballer. Its a credit to Anton that he played so well considering the media circus that surrounds this case. He has been a great buy. maybe our best and a possible future captain.

If Terry is found guilty what will Chelsea do? ..bit of a dilemma for them i reckon.Stand by him ,and not make a stand against racism and be condemned by the Football fraternity and press or sack him? Big call from abramovich whatever way they go.

Don't see it like that myself, goldcoast.

Look at it this way: The FA's drive to kick racism out of football is just about their biggest project and highest priority at the moment. For them to do nothing about this, and to do nothing very publicly, will be a major embarrassment to them and weaken what support and integrity they may still have. So they are being forced to investigate this fully and take action if needed, simply by their own agenda.

The Met will investigate separately, and having spoken with all parties, they clearly believe that there's a case to answer.

That Chelsea moron abusing Anton on Twitter has probably drawn himself into the police investigation as well, and the chanting by those despicable Chelsea 'fans' last night really isn't helping their cause at all - it puts them clearly against public opinion.

I really don't see, in the light of video evidence, interviews, etc. that this can possibly just go away.

They may say they don't find enough evidence to press charges - in which case I reckon nothing will happen.

Whatever the result of the police/FA investigations, Anton will be able to give his side of the story, which will guarantee more press coverage, as will the behaviour of Chelsea 'fans'. The FA have to be very careful here - Terry has not denied using racist language (or has he - the story seems to change) but thinks the context/ circumstances make it justifiable. I think he is stuffed and am deeply impressed with the way Ant has handled himself.

Its very very blatant and obvious that John Terry unfortunately resorted to disgusting racial abuse. Race should never ever be an issue in sport and in life in general. I hope John Terry has shame and sorrow regarding this utterly deplorable behaviour.

I cant see Terry having remorse, shame or sorrow.he is in total denial. He wasnt a bad player a few years back but if the video evidence is correct and proven he will have to go.end of.

Just the stain of this and the fact that he said those kind words live on TV and then say it was in response to AT is easily enough to ensure that he doesn't captain this country again

If he were to hold his position then why not come out and deny he said the words ... He can't because he did

The FA will want blood quite rightly .. He's gone either way in my book
He will have to go to Russia now he is slow ****ed and gives out all the wrong vibes for the euros

You sound like an old 606 poster called Booby Heenass?

But that can't be right because that Booby Heenass was a well known racist & was banned several times because of it ......
