They want £30 mill for TIelmans

He’s definitely worth that as a player considering what’s getting knocked about price wise nowadays. Much more importantly than wether we got ourselves a ‘bargain’ or not is the fact that the team needs it…**** me we got a midfield full of DMs from what I can see.

what else can it be when I believe apart from Perisic, Hojberg has been our most forward thinking midfielder this season

    sums it up imo

had this discussion with @dierhard yesterday. He’s a no brainier at this stage for me. But conte’s clearly got a style and shape which focuses on the creativity from the wide players.
So the question really is whether our current options provide enough quality and depth if we stick with this formation?
to me, it feels like we’ve got potentially a very strong plan A (if we can step up the performances a bit), but I’m currently struggling to see what sort of plan B we have, other than asking Richarlison to conjure something up in 15 minutes from the bench.

Conte doesnt do plan B's - As far as I can see plan B is plan A with fresh legs which I think is why we continue to be linked with more wide players. I totally agree that at £30m Tielemans would be an excellent option, I just think if Conte was shopping at Leicester he would prefer Harvey Barnes.

I don't see us doing much today if Gil leaves on loan we will probably try to get James done other than that I think we need to accept that this is the squad, and it is a much better squad than last seasons.

But that plan A means we are chasing Dan James?

everyone hoping Conte turns someone into a Victor Moses…that’s no strategy.

if that is Contes preferred style…then back him properly and get that player in because we look dogshit basic and devoid of much going forward.

spend some more real money and get another real player in

    Who does a plan B?

I don’t know any coaches we can clearly say have a plan B

what top teams have is personnel to improve the desired formation in game.

apart from Richarlison we don’t have that

    our bench last night

    Doherty
    Richy
    Sess
    Spence
    Sarr
    Lenglet
    Tanganga

Without checking that’s about 4 goals max…3 belonging to Doherty I reckon after a purple patch

    sums it up

nice hyped window at the beginning…fizzling out like a damp firework today

    tricks n illusions

Thats harsh really, Perisic, Bissouma, Richarlison and Lenglet have all improved the squad. Lucas and Romero are injured add those 2 to the match day squad in place or Sarr and Spence/Tanganga and that's the best match day squad we have had for a while, and comparable with most of the clubs around us in the league.. 2 players of decent quality for everyone position. We are light of one additional forward player which I assume is where the links to James come from. Its nothing to do with Victor Moses comparisons its about us needing another wide forward option, he wouldn't necessarily be my choice, but equally I haven't seen him play very often and I expect our scouts probably have. We have a top quality director of football and coach if they think James can do the job we need they are better qualified to make that decision than we as fans are.

Spence does change the formation, as he's an injection of pace down the right which (in theory) pulls opposition defenders out of position

This is presumably why Dan James and Adama Traore have come up this week, as they'd do the same

We are a tough crowd to please, for years we have asked that we do our business early and aren't scrabbling around on deadline day trying to get players we desperately need through the door. This year we have done that and we appear to have bought players that the manager wanted and guess what its still not right!!

I can name better wide players than Dan James that we could have seriously gone after

our squad has improved…it’s like cooking a curry, all the shopping, prepping, cooking…well done but you forgot to add the salt. Some ungrateful twat like me will pick up on it and grab the salt shaker.

We’ve been starved of strategy and decent transfer windows for years from what I’ve seen…so the window gone and it’s activity looks like we have been treated to a feast.

Conte isn’t here to scrape 4th spot…I think the fans are still on that level though subconsciously

That’s my point…it’s an upgrade of personnel in the same formation

    which is fine

I get the Traore links…always have…I get that theory. As things stand we don’t have that and we need it pronto

The issue with the late links to the two of them is I can't help wonder if we couldn't have signed similar players with less fuss earlier in the window

As much as N'Jie and Nkoudou were borderline memes, signing a similar player for a similar fee that we could flip next summer would have made sense

but would he be contributing on the pitch? Because them 2 names you just mentioned contributed as much as I have ever done on the pitch for Spurs…

    never

A lot of that can be put on Poch's squad management, especially Nkoudou, as they only seemed to come on when we were seeing out games or chucked in the starting lineup for low priority matches and looked like they hadn't played for months as they hadn't

At least with the additional subs a player in that mold has a chance of more regular appearances

He’s not aiming for the title yet though either, said himself we need two more windows before we can begin competing. So 4th/ 3rd probably is the aim, with ideally a good cup and European run.

its only the lunatics on social media who are thinking like that because they need to ensure they keep up with their “Enic out” narrative.

Most of us are pretty pleased with our business so far, and the way in which we’ve done it.
But we’re also an intelligent bunch who have spotted some potential issues and are just trying to predict whether the club are on the same lines of thinking and whether we’ll make more improvements.

Still think Son is a large reason for a lot of negativity from last night (and other pefromances). You have an in-form Son and we probably create more chances from where he opens up opposition and finds space for Kane to hit into.

Creative mid is something we’d all like but whilst we’re playing with 10 men we’re constantly fighting an up hill task.

Similar for Emerson, good defender, awful WB. Look at Perisic on the left and then look at Emerson on the right, the difference is painful.

If Son was on form (or rightfully dropped for Richarlison) and we had a proper attacking RWB in the squad - wait we do, Spence! - then we probably leave with 3 points last night and don’t have lacklustre spells against the likes of Wolves and Forest either.

I think Conte needs to make some better decisions.

Last night is a prime example of why we need a plan B, Bissouma and Hojbjerg in the middle couldn't create. If we had someone who could sit in the middle and create I think we score 2 or 3 in the first half. After West Ham equalised it was pretty clear we wouldn't score and we invited pressure on us because we didn't have anyone who could pick up the ball and carry us up the pitch, Richarlison did it a couple of times, However if we had another winger with blistering pace it gets us further up the field.

Sounds like Lavinier is set to join Swindon on loan.

Good move for him. Swindon performed miracles last season with all sorts of constraints. Almost got promoted!

Particularly as we had more possession last night than other games I’ve seen this season. A more creative profile at CM could have been great in those circumstances.
