Links to some Ashley level signings now.. I sense the emptied the pot with Isak and then got injuries to all their best players the next day
If we do still have a big signing to come in this window it will probably be someone whose name hasn't even appeared on this thread or any of the media rumours.
Disagree. Isak was mentioned heavily but we were “outpriced” early in the window. Rumour had it we were very interested and had submitted bids. We went away and came back. Leicester allegedly have several players lined up ready to go, just need funding. I think we’ll end up with Maddison and possibly some right winger on loan.
I'd be over the moon with Maddison really. Considering how well Paqueta would fit in here, there must have been a very good reason why we refused to continue to pursue him. My assumption is that he wasn't as interested in joining us as were lead to believe.
Sometimes we don't want to listen - we were told repeatedly that the club weren't interested. Maybe there has been a breakdown between him and Bruno, maybe he just doesn't work hard enough (he failed badly at AC Milan), maybe he's a bit of a pain in the ass, maybe he doesn't have stats we like for a pressing game, maybe our scouts have got it completely wrong and he's going to be a huge success for West Ham. Time will tell and it is what it is. If we sign Maddison or Gallagher before the end of the window, then quite simply we felt we had better options.
I was amazed we spent as big as we did on Isak to be honest. I thought we'd be around 100 Mill in total this window and figured Pedro made sense. If we get another in then I'd imagine it would be a loan. It seems Gallagher, pulisic and Madison would all be permanent so I don't think it'll be any of those. I'm a bit stumped, Chelsea reject makes most sense though.
If we have any sort of European ambition this season we need at least one more player in I think. Our squad depth isn't great. The fact that our team full of 2nd choice players was struggling vs Tranmere was a real eye opener.
But it's a long term plan mate. Like it or not, this year is about giving a cup a go and hitting mid-table safety as early as possible, then seeing where that takes us. We've had a decent amount spent but nothing incredible and in just 6 months, less than 2 windows, have given City a game. GK seems ok, RB seems ok, LB seems ok, CB probably needs a little work but that'll be Jan or beyond. CM may be sorted in the next day, we need one in. LW is fine, CF is now fine and RW also needs work. Really we're just two players short. I've a feeling they may go for youth on the right side and give Almiron the benefit, then spend big on CM. That French winger, or Doku, perhaps, but i still think we'll have Maddison deadline day drama.
