Good luck to Broadhead, no ill will here. He scored some important goals for us last season. I get the feeling that the longer it went on we opted for Simms and it wouldn't make sense for Everton to send two lads to the same club competing for game time.

As long as he doesn't score against us!

McCarthy would be direct competition/cover for Evans. An experienced head to play that role with the young players around him. Only worry for me is Celtic manager rates him highly but there fans say he can't play the high tempo game he wants.

If they've assessed the risk and don't want to go for it, it doesn't make them a 2nd rate recruitment team, it just makes them more risk adverse than you would like. Time will tell whether this is the right decision but I'm sure thorough consideration was given if it is the case that it was indeed a Sunderland decision.
Fair play mate, harsh on my behalf I think. Every transfer is a risk though, really. Some more than others like you say. I just think he was perfect for us based on style of play and his attributes. Given a run I actually think he has the potential to be very high class. I will cry into me tea and them move on I suppose.

Wigan fans on twitter raging when it's being suggested that Broadhead only went there because he would be 3rd choice here. Most of them stating "well if he's an option off the bench for you, he won't even get in our squad" :emoticon-0140-rofl:

Lack of recent game time is a concern but will bring in vital experience and could help bring on the likes of Neil and matete

McCarthy has always massively impressed me when I've seen him play. There was a period at Everton when I'd have said he was potentially becoming a top 4 player.

Problem is I've not seen him play for 5 or 6 years :D

Isn't McCarthy another player who has suffered with a lot of injuries? I'm not overly excited about this one, tbh.

Yes. but so had Corry Evans and he's been playing more or less constantly.

I'm not excited either. But it could be a brilliant signing if he's able to get anywhere near his best.

Bear in mind Celtic gave him a 4-year contract only a year ago,. So unless he's majorly broken down in the last year, Celtic had confidence in his ability to play at that level for another 3 years from now.

And he played 15 games for them last season including 7 in the Europa League. And the season before that played 16 Premier League games. So its not like he's been sitting doing nothing for 2 years.
