Yeah I'd agree with that. The entire model has changed at the club. Top to bottom. The change is significant and really is taking the club in the right direction. Therefore, Speakman should be given credit for playing a part in the transition.

Forgive me if I'm wrong on any of this but wasn't AN Speakmans choice. And wasn't he opposed to RK and this was the cause of the Manager lag
The Proctor carry on was a mess like. He should have stepped in himself. Not sure about the Defoe thing but I was of the opinion that KLD was more "influential" about this than was let on.
I could be wrong on all of this like

I doubt anyone could've predicted how poor Defoe would be tbh.

He was in better shape than some of the other players and I thought he'd be a good influence if nothing else.

I’d be surprised if it was Speakman pushing for Defoe but I know nowt

It was. But that should have been done sooner and we would have been up automatically

Agreed. Davison for being a MLF and having spend years in senior positions, needs to get his head out of his arse.

There were a few of us on here who couldnt see any way Defoe could contribute on the pitch at all mate. He had barely played in 18 months and it seemed impossible to me he would be anywhere near fit enough. It was a mind boggling signing in my opinion, and I would bet the coaches at the time wanted someone else. I am just relieved it didnt cost us in the end, and hopefully some lessons have been learned. It was a 2 or 3 week period when it felt like we had lost a lot of focus with the whole Defoe and Keane things - it was a really bizarre time, IMO at least.

completely agree with that assessment. If he’s got as much about him as his vocabulary thinks it does, then hopefully he’s learnt from all those mistakes.

However what I will say is he appointed Neil, and Neil got the job done. So he got lucky in a way but also made the right appointment. He may have appointed somebody quicker in January that then didn’t get us promoted. All a bit shoulda woulda coulda. But hard to deny it was a bit shambolic.

I am much more impressed with how things are going since January. And that’s not just because of results.

Not liked him from the start. Seems to look into things quite a lot but never does anything.

Is it not, how people like him work, takes ages to make decisions, but they get it right in the long term, I’m crossing my fingers for that last bit

Yeah, needs to be more meaningful, impactful change now. Time has passed for meetings and analysis. Get it sorted.

I think by the state of how the rest of the club is run, ticket office club shop etc etc shows how incompetent and small minded he is.

The refusal to pay for netting so home supporters are protected in the NS leaves a bad taste. He was all for putting up season ticket prices before RAWA talked him down.

I think the next few transfers will tell us a lot, and I am hopeful the people behind the scenes will push us forward again. It is probably the most demanding position any of them have been in when you think we are fishing in a bigger pool for bigger fish. I think we need a couple of upgrades in a couple of key positions, and that is where they will earn their money. The business so far this summer looks great, I would like a couple of real top championship players in now, and that will be the toughest challenge.

Or she's just proud of her son's achievement In winning at Wembley? Seem more likely than trying to send a message to Sunderland fans
