For all those that feel nuclear weapons stop wars lol.......what if it was just an accident a malfunction........tbf think our chances of survival are better in war

 

Stop using their energy. Reducing demand is the only way to bring prices down. There is a supply shortage currently, which was caused by the fall in energy prices during the pandemic followed by a massive reduction in investment by oil and gas companies leading to current supply issues, which was then compounded by the situation in Ukraine. The oil price went down to near zero during the pandemic and gas was dirt cheap as well. Gas suppliers etc kept their prices up though. Now demand has shot up and prices have followed because of the tight market, so suppliers are passing it on to you the consumer.

So do the world a favour, get an electric car and slap some solar panels on your roof. Then ask your mates to do it as well.

Then persuade the government to give the energy producing companies the following options:
1) invest your recent mega profits in exploration and infrastructure for increased medium-term gas production and long term renewable energy production
or
2) pay a windfall tax on those profits

Share buy backs should not be an option.

Taxing them and then paying everyone a subsidy isn’t going to work in the long term, although politically it might be a good move.

They have a great opportunity to use this energy crisis to promote energy transition but I suspect they will be more likely to adopt the short term solution for political popularity.

 

I don’t disagree with any of that. Although very few people have £50k to drop on an electric car and another £8k to put solar panels on their roof.

If the Govt levied the energy companies they could use some of that vast profit to (1) offset household bills (2) invest in grants for solar panels, insulation, electric cars etc.

 

Good idea but I would go with just the grants for solar panels and electric cars. Think people need a push to start weaning ourselves off fossil fuels. Too many seem to think its the government responsibility to sort it out. BP's latest quarter profits could buy 140000 families a Tesla and solar panels to run it with.

 

A mate as just paid £15,500 for solar panels, saving him about £2 per day, by the time, he's got the money back they'll probably need replacing. He's now trying to work out how to sell surplus back to the grid. These things need to be subsidised to make it affordable and worth the hassle.

 

That's what happens when you live oop North. In Manchester the main use of solar panels is to keep the rain off. They will get much more efficient though.

Remember when I first came to Indonesia our landlord told us that the water for the rented house was solar heated. Turned out he had put the tank on the roof and left the top off. We didn't notice until the wet season.

 

There's no way a lot of people can afford an electric car .
It will need rapid improvement in the batteries and mass-production to reduce the price.
£35,000 + for a lot of these cars would eat up most people's monthly disposable income .

 

Was thinking of investing in a new electric vespa.....the big put off was design was a bit lady like and top speed was 45miles and hour.

Decided I'm gonna get a 300cc petrol instead

Ms Truss has also proposed scrapping jobs aimed at increasing inclusion and diversity in the public sector.

In addition to introducing regional pay, Ms Truss has said she would save £137m by banning union representatives from getting paid time off to focus on union work.

The foreign secretary also wants to reduce average civil service annual leave from 27 days to 25 and scrap Whitehall's diversity officers - something her team estimates could save £12m a year.

 

Agreed - but maybe if they were subsidised by government grants it would make them more affordable. Also make it compulsory for all company cars to be electric vehicles and give them tax breaks for it.

 

Electric motor bikes are starting to become more popular here. There are a staggering 140-150 million motorbikes on the streets here so the fossil fuel useage and pollution reduction could be huge.

 

This is part of the problem. The upfront cost and the amount of time it takes to pay back the benefits. That’s even before you account for who can afford to drop £15k on the installation.

the FIT scheme, which was the amount you got paid for exporting back to the grid has been massively slashed by the govt. so another incentive gone.

Folk need a real terms support with their energy bills right now. And whilst investing in solar / wind on a domestic level is great if you can afford it, as you mention the amount of time it takes to see any financial benefit just puts it beyond the scope of most people.

 

With a new design and better performance I will indeed look into it in the future....the one thing I could do with the bike compared to an electric car is I can charge a bike but 8d be lucky to get a space outside my house to charge my car.

 

Think thats a real issue for a lot of people particularly in big cities. Noticed in London they have installed chargers on lampposts but still doesn’t create more space for cars. Think they have to think more seriously about charging capacity and also providing charging parks. Apparently all new houses now have to have charging points which is a start.

 

Does the thick sod realise it is law union reps are allowed paid time off to do their Union duties .

 

It's an impossible situation dude tbh......as per usual its a pipe dream from the very people who have done the most damage

 

Just think of all the high rise flats, grouped flats, terraced houses for example. The 2030 date is totally unrealistic.
Also the national grid can hardly cope now when we have a cold snap, let alone with all these new chargers en force.
Then are these new cars going to be able to tow anything of note, are horse boxes, caravans, mobile food outlets etc going to be defunct.

 

Every town and City now have these big retail parks, drive past at any time of night and they're lit up like a beacon, just imagine how much energy could be saved if they were made to switch them off.

 

I like the green travel buses and **** the prem clubs tried advertising last season.......they then fly to the other end of the earth 2 cash in off a fan base they got anus attached to.....
