I hope and prey Orta and Marsch have got it right this season with the signings. I would have still fancied our chances of coming back stronger it we had went down and utilized Cresswell, Drameh, Summerville and Joffy along with a few others like Bate. If we have got it right great, if we have got the signings wrong I hate to think of how we could fix it. Don't get me wrong, I would take where we are now any day over our season having to start today a league lower. I am just concerned that we haven't signed an ounce of Premier League experience, we haven't signed another attacker and we haven't got a LB
Just one of the players you have listed have shown they may be a success at prem level. Bate will never be prem standard and I'm not sure about drameh or wee jimmy. The players we have signed a lot more experience at a higher level than an u23 league.
Well, Leeds record of wins when Kalvin didn't play, was pretty low, looks like that's carried over to Citeh.
Thing is wakey, the add ons included in the Phillips deal will be dependant on the trophies that City win and how many times he plays for them. Therefore the best thing for us is that he plays and City win. Same with Barca and Raphinha.
All that means is more money in rads pockets. Do you really believe a couple of million in add ins will impact our squad in any substantial way
I’ll be honest. I really don’t think anyone should diss Radz as an owner, his investment got us back to the premier league. He doesn’t have the personal wealth to throw money at it like it’s a hobby aka Abramovich and Man City, the 49rs don’t look like they want to takeover and do that either. Our two best players forced us into selling them. Am I confident of staying up? No. Am I confident that if we do go down we’re in a better position to bounce back up in quicker time than previously? Yes.
Agree with all of that except last bit. If relegated we woouldnt be any better off. As any quality we have would be gone. Still let’s see if we manage to strengthen squad and stay away from the drop area
It's more than a couple of million. Think it's 8 million if Barca win the CL in Raphinhas case. However, to answer your question, yes I do believe add ons will have an impact on our squad. Any money coming in makes the club stronger. Even if the owner takes most of it out the books still show the money coming in which has a positive impact on the valuation of the club. No owner is perfect, they are all human after all. However, the state we were in when Radz took over should not be forgotten. He's done a great job considering he openly admitting to not having a clue how to run a football club when he took over. He's got more right in the last 4 years than most chairmen do in 40.
But financially we could cope, buy tried and trusted players that could get us back up, supplemented with the youth investment. I hope we don’t have to test that but now I think foundations in place wouldn’t mean another 16 year absence. Also think we’d be attractive to a big money buy out, though that’s no guarantee of a good owner.
Easier said than done building promotion winning sides from that division as we well know. Every year out of the pl sets the club back further. We’ve wasted nearly two decades so far and can’t afford more
No denying what rads has done but equally doesn’t mean he has what it takes to get us to the next level which would be mid table safety for a couple of seasons. Anyway didn’t he once say he had a five year plan for European football and he’d then review his situation
He took us from 15th in the Championship to 9th in the PL. An injury ravaged season where he again has openly admitted that mistakes were made followed that 9th place. It was obvious we needed a bigger squad and we go in to this season with a bigger squad. I'm not sure there is such a thing as a mid table club. There is the top 6-8 teams who are financially way above every other club and then it's just the remaining 12 teams fighting it out for survival. Some will have good seasons, others like us last season, will have injury ravaged seasons and struggle. Brighton had horrendous luck in our first season back and nearly got relegated. Last season with a very similar squad they comfortably finished top 10.
I mean, I've just spent half an hour sticking up for the club and owner but I do have concerns going in to this season. Hardest thing to do at this level is score goals. We have been terrible at converting chances for a good 4 seasons now. We are a week away from the start of a new season and we have sold last seasons top scorer and have only one senior striker on the books who hasn't played regularly for almost a year. That's concerning.
