Never said those 5 would be on the pitch at the same time, making the point we have plenty of attacking players that can create chances, Stewart and Simms probably won't start together in a lot of games. But Clarke, Roberts, Pritchard, and Stewart on the pitch will start a lot of games.

Ah sorry mate totally misunderstood. Aye I agree, Clarke/Pritchard/Roberts need to be starting behind Stewart every game. Definitely need a solid midfielder in there with Evans though, a moussa dembele kind of player. Fast, powerful, good at driving forward and picking out passes to the front 4.

Can't believe that anyone would think Ross Stewart was ****e. Although we did have another poster complaining about us selling Wyke anytime things weren't going well.

I guess it depends when he said it. I doubt many of us had seen him before we signed him and it was only LJ back then who was picking players. I wasnt immediately blown away, but at the same time thought time would help him settle. I guess in a round about way I am saying I suspect a lot of us have had our mind changed on a player over time. Maybe this lad has changed his opinion. I thought Harry Kane was absolutely useless whem I watched him in his early career...

I'm sure RS came on as a sub on his debut and scored? He hit the ground running and has never looked back.

Aye. However, when he joined it was a left field signing based on his record. He was a lad with talent, but had never shown it on the pitch at a decent level. We paid a fee and got him rather than him being a free in the summer - massive credit to the club. He was a sub mostly in that first half season for us, and there were times I thought he needed a lot of work from a coach. He really came into his own last year, and the coaches who have worked with him keep improving him. My perspective is he landed out of nowhere, and to me showed some good traits in his early appearances, but is also far better now than he was when he arrived. I think all of us would agree he has improved massively, and even those who doubted him at the start now see his value. Lets see if he is championship level, I think he is, but as with a few of ours proof is in the pudding.

Great post and very accurate. But personally I have never doubted him.

a couple of ways of looking at it really, many of us were dubious as we are with most players as even some of the best have moved on for huge fees and been absolutely terrible at their new club, any new player is a risk.

wyke, was somehow letting the ball bounce off him and scoring goals despite his obvious lack of any real prowess and most could see that, therefore losing him and only having a basically untested lad to replace him caused a few ripples of unrest although i think the majority were savvy enough to notice that stewart had a lot more about his game than wyke and so it has proved.

i certainly would have been happier if we actually had two or three options rather than basically one, maybe the manager(s) saw enough of him to put their trust in him to get the goals or maybe there was just a complete lack of anyone with proven experience to go and sign (also after what happened with grigg the club would have been a lot more careful chasing players) but luckily it worked out ok.

i had a read of the first page, reckon the rest will be much the same.

nothing really to disagree with if i am honest and remove the red and white specs, that said, what we saw (and few others did) was a manager who is meticulous in his preparation and will change things when needed, be that the starting eleven or during the game and those changes make differences to the outcome, usually in our favour.

most also agree that if AN had been here since the start of the season we would have made the autos, i also think some coventry fans have forgotten how it is in division three, or maybe they were just not a big enough name to have every other team and the officials treat it as their cup final*, maybe they did not have so many things go against them but that feckin league is a swine, i expect an increase in skill and a drop in the sh1thousery and as fans i know we realise there is a gulf especially between recently relegated teams and the rest but there are still plenty of places to fight for and we are not here just to make the numbers up as we were last time.

*said very much with tongue in cheek --- in case someone gets upset!!

Camara seemed to show more discipline in terms of positional sense and is more of a holding midfielder. We have Matete and Neil who are more ball carrying midfielders. If Evans gets injured, I'm not confident that any of our current midfielders can step into his shoes.

Northern monkeys? Let me get at the bustard who said that… just wait until I get out of this chair. Now, where’s me walkin’ stick! I thought I’d lost all my interest in football but the old rivalries have got me juices circulating again (even if at a much slower rate).
