The energy suppliers can’t add on extra charges in the form of fines for non payment.

What they will do is explore ways in which you can pay via a structured payment plan. If you then refuse to pay they would be within their rights to seek through the courts an order to cut off your supply.

But that whole process, especially if a million + people do it, would simply cripple their systems. So the idea is to force a change from Govt to either (1) keep the energy cap at an affordable price (2) levy the energy companies for a tax on their profits.

It’s not really the energy suppliers fault. They buy electricity / gas at the market rates. But when you have companies like Shell and BP posting profits of £11bn for half a year, whilst everybody else is being hammered with their bills and everytime they fill up, then somebody has to make a stand.

think you are getting confused here piskie.

The energy companies that are making buck are those that are taking it from the ground/buying it and selling it to the retail companies who sell to us.

Your plan that will cripple the retail side probably won't do anything as:

1. they probably already have **** loads of cashflow
2. It's the retail side that will be affect cashflow wise. As you can see through the likes of bulb who are the retail side, they got a massive bailout from the government.

Sure, it will raise a point to the government but the big energy companies won't be crippled by the non payment.

Hell if they really wanted to, the likes of france and germany would happily accept our gas/electricity if the retail consumer doesn't want to pay for it

No confusion here Bobz. As I said in my post it will hit the energy suppliers, and if a million+ people do it, it will force them to go to Govt to tackle the real culprits here, which are the energy producers.

Will they not be extra charges for missing their payment if they cancel their direct debit?

That really isn't going to help people already struggling.

Also it don't help the 2 million+ households who pay by prepayment meter, and you will probably find there will be a good proportion of the poorest people amoungst them, so it's a completely hollow gesture to canx a direct debit, because they don't have one. <laugh>

Yeah, well they'll just have to sit in the dark with no heating for a month. That'll show the energy companies.

Any company is well within their rights to charge for a late payment. It's in the T&C's.

I really think this will be more harmful than helpful for those struggling the most.

Poor person, I'm not topping up my prepayment card, so I'm sitting in the dark.
Neighbour, why, have you run out of money?
Poor person, No, but there is a link going round on the internet that says I mustn't pay them.

Yep. Think of the poor kids about to have a month of eating cold beans and getting showered with cold water because of Piskie wanting to cause anarchy.

:cheesy:

@Schlem Boogerman has a recipe for cold beans, warms them up by the pouring them on his sausages from the bbq or something. Maybe he could set up a leaflet on it and drop them down to his local food bank.

@Schlem Boogerman you'll have to give us a few more money saving tips.

So beans on toast without the toast.
Cold beans warmed up on top of the sauasages from the bbq.

along with @PINKIE prepayment card users to canx direct debits.

It will if it affects some meaningful change.

In the meantime you’ll just have to go round to schlems for some cold beans on bread

they are really really bad
constantly get e-mails from them saying i haven't given them a meter reading for over 10 months despite uploading it to their website plus actually e-mailing them . given up now <laugh>

Your lucky most people are over paying and don't even realise it.
