The article refers to the UK. It's an automated system and there's no need for wet stamping. That's why the British government is threatening to respond in kind. There are plenty of EU lorries coming into the UK that would be messed up if we did.

The biometric checks are different. That's a new security issue, not Brexit, and may take more time to pass through, at least during implimentation. Travellers need to be aware of this.

It's perfectly possible to track travellers by recording their details on computer. That's what the article is saying. It's now automated.

Yeah it’s possible. I wonder why so few places do it. Japan, US, Canada, Australia all ‘wet stamp’ in my pretty recent experience, at least for visitors.

Anyway, at least we have established that it’s not just the French in the EU who do it.

Nearly everyone arriving in the U.K. from ‘rich’ countries can go through the automated gates with U.K. citizens. As a consequence the queues at these gates, which are not fully automated, still require staff to view the scans, are now much longer than at the old traditional immigration booths. In my experience.

First, it would help if the French turned up for work in the booths.

It may not be just the French in the EU that are trying to make Brexit difficult. I didn't say it was. There's clearly an issue between the UK and French governments over the wet stamping issue and what had previously been agreed, hence the UK threatening tit for tat measures.

Australia doesn't wet stamp according to Wiki.

After ruling out rejoining the Single Market, Starmer is now ruling out renationalising the railways and utilities. Still yet to say anything he WILL do.

    My vote will go elsewhere.

The wet stamps are the one single positive I'm yet to see from brexit. I love them.

The computer software for checking time spent in the EU was meant to be in place years ago. My understanding is that every time they have tried to implement it the whole system has crashed. Our own border control don’t expect to have a working system for some time yet.
Wet stamping for entries into the EU are in place to check time spent in the area but in reality nobody is going to check where you have been. This is a classic case of a deterrent being put in place to worry travellers into not breaking the laws.

No one sneaks out in a dinghy. You march brazenly down the beach with it in the middle of the day, and a gendarme helps you launch it

Why do British police REFUSE to deal with eco-protesters like this? Italian security are praised for ripping protesters' superglued hands off priceless Botticelli and dragging them away
    • An Italian security guard showed a refreshing no-nonsense approach to eco-warriors in Florence on Friday
    • The out-of-patience official stormed over to the protesters and pulled their superglued hands off the glass
    • It struck a jarring contrast to the casualness shown by British guards at the National Gallery this month
    • The latest fracas followed protests by Just Stop Oil on the M25, bringing traffic to a halt on Wednesday
