So why bring them into it?

I'm not splitting hairs of who pays what and where or getting into a back and forth. I respect everyone's opinion, but history has proven every "Crisis, see the rich getting richer and the rest of "us" becoming worse off. Going back to prohibition, government made more money during the volstead act than when it was legally taxed. 2001, stocks bought low and sold high. 2008 housing crash, alot of people made billions. I used the fuel narrative as an example of such profiteering when there's several others I could have used. They're now saying the rocket record high energy cap "isn't enough" and will be re-evaluated. I like everyone else and probably like you am a working bloke, with a government taking the piss.

Spot on mate. Self policing, they made it the vaxed vrs the dirty. Peer pressure at its highest. All that's died off now to the point where, at Wembley stadium for the play off final, you could ware a mask if you wanted. 18 months earlier that would've been unheard-of.

The cost of oil is currently at its lowest since Russia invaded Ukraine. It is currently on a par with the cost of oil at the beginning of March 2022.

1st of March 2022 we were paying 1.50/1.55 per litre of diesel. Cost of oil $95 per barrel

Since then we have also seen a 5p cut in fuel duty.

16th July 2022 we are paying £1.95 per litre of diesel. Cost of oil $95 per barrel.

That doesn't add up to me. Could somebody with an idea on how this works please explain.

I may be wrong, but I think it’s because me and Gelders have banned ESSO and SHELL that the prices are dropping <laugh>

GBP to the $ has an effect because it trades in dollars. However, my simple arithmetic says we need in effect to pay $130 dollars for a $120 barrel. But that should only put about 10p on, half covered by the 5p duty reduction we were supposed to see. In any case, it's not $120 now, as you say falling back to $95

The app has some 1.73. 1.74. 1.78
Love to know Tesco Consett s. justification for still being 1.92 - highest in area ( and must be embarrassed to put the price on their sign)
