G10 has a man crush of Rafa! Haha. In all seriousness I fully agree with everything G10 has said about the man, he's different class and it takes a very good player to force Redknapp to drop his much loved JD. Fingers crossed he stays fit, he's going to be pivotal in our fight for a top 4 finish. I'm actually hoping 4th place will have a sense of disappointment, I want 3rd... But regardless of that, LONG LIVE RAFA VAN DER VAART!!! (as a Spurs player ofcourse )
For me personally our most important player is King. Modric is probably more important to our side than VDV. It's just nice to have several top top players these days.
I agree with the fact that King is a huge boost to us whenever he plays and is very important, but would you rather have a defence of King and Kaboul with a midfield of Parker and Livermore or a defence of Kaboul and Bassong with a midfield of Modric and Parker? We can just about make do without King (although as I said we look far more solid and confident with him in the side and I'd always rather have him than not) but our midfield often looks lost and directionless without Modric pulling the strings for us. Overall although as I said I think King is a great player and a Spurs legend he is not as important as Modric. We have backup for King - the emergence of Kaboul so far this season has ensured this - but we seriously struggle to replicate Modric's influence in the middle of the park when he doesn't play.
re VDV, as people know I post a lot on a lot of things, so as a 'hot topic' is VDV, I will post plenty about him. But yes, I did get particularly riled up about this issue too. Anyway all's well that ends well, the 'VDV doubters' have been vanquished and the artist known as Rafa is allowed to carry on his calling to our delight
I'll give Henderson the benefit of the doubt, as he's only a youngster. Very much a Comolli buy at the moment, though.
Torres, Carroll, Hargreaves and Bentley have to be the four worst value for money buys over the past 5 years. If we manage to get £5m for Bentley I will genuinely be amazed. Even Levy will have trouble flogging that waste of space.
Bentley's still a decent player, but his time to prove it is running out. He'd have done more yesterday than Taarabt did, even if he is injured!
To be honest mate if it weren't for superal making the Bentley point, I would have forgotten too, start of the season I genuinely forgot he was a Spurs player until West Ham/ Spurs announced the loan. Same went for Pienaar, unnoticable in the appearances he's made added to the fact he's been injured far too much, I only remembered he was still a Spurs player when Ghoddle10 made a thread about him a few days back.
Probably the best way to think of Bentley, or not think of him. At least it wasn't our money personally so we can't get proper buyer's remorse! On the other hand, Levy probably has nightmares about it.
I'm not sure he did, either. So much for proving Redknapp wrong. So much for our sell on fee, too. Balls.
