That term richest club is convoluted in football. I would say that it’s a useless metric. These clubs are so spending on debts loaned to them by shark owners. Barca was spending insane amounts just few years ago when the money wasn’t really there. Look at Chelsea with the massive loan that they incurred just running the club while claiming to the richest club. City and PSG practically make no money but can still spend Saudi’s money and claim to be a rich club.

Football beyond the entertainment value is fkin fked!
One of the reasons for Barcelona to be in such financial mess is their recruitment has been as bad as Utd (if that’s at all possible !!) and they likewise have been flushing hundreds of millions down the drain. 3 names: Ousmane Dembele, Coutinho and Griezman. Everyone a disappointment and never worth even a fraction of the price paid.

Might be a bit left field, but just maybe De Jong doesn’t fancy Utd?
Are you seriously suggesting that all this effort has gone into a player that isn't open to the move. Ten Hag and the club will have received every private assurance they need to convince them of the player's intentions otherwise they would have moved on. What de Jong says in public is simply to force barca to settle with him in order for the transfer to go through

I’m afraid this saga will go on to the last day. Who will blink first Barcelona the ****ed club or the player who wants his £17m? In reality the player has no incentive to move and can stay put and get his £17m and the £50m for the next 4 years. The **** club needs to wake up as no amount of ****ty PR can make the reality disappear.

I’m suggesting that reports coming out from his side are saying he doesn’t fancy Utd. He may well know his times up, but could be hoping that another club comes in for him?
As someone here said, if he is desperate to come to Utd and the fees have been agreed between the clubs, why doesn’t he agree to the move and then sue for his owed money. I would have thought Utd would help him getting the correct legal people in place for that to happen?

But United have now reportedly told The Sun that they wouldn’t be wasting their time on a player if there was ‘any doubt over his commitment to make the move’.

And it’s stated the big delay to the transfer is down to the unpaid wages the former Ajax star is owed.”

That was reportedly from Manchester United representative which makes total sense when you think about it.

The player publicly suggestion that he doesn’t want to leave simply becomes a posturing performative act to force Barca’s hands.

At this rate Barca are going to buy Pele and Geoff Hurst - what a load of bollocks, none of these players can be registered for the coming season - at the moment some of the best players in the world are signed to Barca to sit at home and play computer games. None of these signings can be registered with La Liga, none of them can play next season if Barca don't meet the FFP regs for the coming season and they are way short of compliance. If things stay as they are, Barca could have a world class first eleven sitting on their arses for an entire season.

In years gone bye Barca would have bullied and blustered La Liga but those days are over so this will be a telling pre-season for Barca, all of which plays into our hands as it is their wage bill rather than their available capital that is the La Liga's problem. De Jong is just one of thirteen players on deferred wage agreements and if the club isn't careful there will be serious problems ahead - if they settle the de Jong wages issue, others might clamber on board for a settlement before all the 'new' money is gone

The Sun, that’s me convinced then <laugh>
Like I said, it’s not about who reported, but the logic of it. It is said that De Jong was in frequent communications with Ten Hag. Even without that information, it would make no sense for any club to go after a player that strictly does not want to play for it. Especially in a long protracted pursuit such as this one.

Therefore, there is far more going on behind the scenes than what is said in public by the player and the agent.

But I also agree with you that I too asked why the player can’t use an arbitration court to get what they owe him. But I imagine that it is far more complex than that if you he chose to sign for a new club.

Either way, there is far more to this than a simplistic narrative of the player flat out refusing to leave when his club has made it clear that they want to sell him.

Probably fairly simple really, something like he agreed to deferment of wage with acceptance it would be paid back over the last years of his contract. If he moves the contract ends along with the payment. **** situation but his agent is to blame if this is the case.

They’ve just announced again that they have a deal in principle for Lewindoski. How true is it that all these players that they are signing can’t play? Surely they wouldn’t be committing to these signings if there were simply so path to playing them. Surely?!

One thing that is fairly easy to conclude from this insane episode is that Manchester United is probably the only place to get the gospel… which is, there is no way in hell we would be spending this much time trying to sign a player that flat out does not want to play for the club. Especially with how much clear out we have gone through to rid the club of toxic players.

It is clear that Ten Hag views the player as crucial to his system. To invest not only so much money but also time and reputation. Let’s hope that if this saga concludes positively it would have been worth it.

Thats nothing more than pure speculation and has already been dismissed by a sporting lawyer. Do you really think deferment of wages, to the numbers being reported, won’t have a water tight contract that covers the potential of the player leaving before his contract ends?
If you remove all the “noise” and look at what is factual, the situation is Barca are prepared to sell him and Utd want to buy him so are still actively pursuing it. The only other factual part is Barca want him to take a pay cut along with other players. That’s it…

Under La Liga's FFP rules a club can only spend a certain amount on wages and transfers based on a number of financial performance factors. Barca have tried to comply by buying players on free contracts and asking players to defer their sizeable wages until a later date - probably the end of the year when barca hope to have concluded the sale of TV rights, property sales and other commercial rights sell-offs. La Liga are telling Barca that hoping to sell, isn't that same as have sold and have the money in the bank. La liga are looking for cash in the bank before signing off on player registrations. Barca will borrow the money if need be, but player wages, interest payments, deferred agents fees will all but wipe out Barcas financial gains. . They will probably borrow their way to get players registered but the club is still in a financial mess

So you also accept the bluster that he allegedly 'doesn't fancy' United is not fact.

Glad we cleared that up.

I never said it was fact, I said based on comments coming out from his camp it could be “left field” to suggest he doesn’t fancy Utd.
Even today there are conflicting stories based on which media outlet you choose to listen to or read.

So sorry, you’ve cleared nothing up yet.

pretty much what i heard on R5 today in that he has to fulfill his contract to get the deferred wages . My take is that as the deferred wages were to be repaid by being included in his presumably new contracted wage structure i.e. the £18m due from next year and that may be the justification for the Barca argument that they don't have to pay the deferred wages if he has left .
