Interesting conversation with some of my pals at the weekend regarding the possible new leader. Most voted Tory despite being working class lads. Some believed it made them a class higher if they voted Tory. All said they wouldn't want a non white PM, especially a Muslim when Zahawi was in the running. Blatant honesty from them, they couldn't care less if they got called racist, water off a ducks back to them. I personally ain't bothered as long as they are honest and have a shred of integrity.
Who is Kemi Badenoch? Who is Penny Mordaunt? I know who Braverman is because I've been underwhelmed by her already. Don't' recall Ellers ever waxing lyrical about them.
I was going to post that the Brexit-voting Red Wall wouldn't vote for a non-white PM, but thought better of it. Seems to be true, though.
Strange way of choosing the next PM - look them up. Would have preferred to have seen or heard them speak and say something memorable and sensible. I do know that Mordaunt seems to have made it a point of releasing lots of photos of herself in a bikini which I suppose is as good a way of getting attention as any. Doesn't tell me much about her qualifications to lead the country out of recession or in a war or peace time. They may be great choices but seems a bit risky to vote for someone who you have never seen who lacks experience of high office or under pressure. Sorry if you are offended by the mention of Ellers. But the point was exactly what I said. He would have told us who they were and what they have done that deserves his endorsement.
Another one bites the dust. Apparently Mordaunt will wipe the floor with all the other candidates, but especially Sunak, when the party members get to vote. This is according to a YouGov poll of party members. Entertainingly YouGov was set up by Nadhim Zahawi. He didn’t get any founders shares though, had them transferred to a shell company in Gibraltar in his father’s name. Nothing to do with tax avoidance. Probably. Good to have such a whizz kid as Chancellor. If Mordaunt makes it into the final two and the polls suggest similar margins of victory for her I wonder if her opponent will drop out to avoid the humiliation and boost their chances of a cabinet job? Then we’d get a new PM next week, which is what I think Starmer wants (he’s a bloke who can’t even word a simple no confidence motion so that it can’t be dismissed as frivolous. Silly me, it was frivolous). It doesn’t bother me if the PM is chosen by Tory MPs or Tory party members either way tests the definition of ‘Democratic’. A quick turnaround makes Johnson homeless quicker.
People said the same about Thatcher when she came in. You won't like her I imagine but she transformed millions of lives for the better. Badenoch is a sharp cookie. Mordaunt, I can't say either way.
Not quite. We all knew who she was. The witch who stole our school milk. Thankfully it didn't stunt my growth.
I said to look them up because you hadn't heard of them. Kemi in particular has been reasonably high profile of late.
