It's the season of the living dead and your worst dreams come true. You have to choose a manager for Rovers and your choice is limited to: * Martin Dobson * Ray Graydon * Ian Atkins * Garry Thompson * Dave Penney * Paul Buckle Who's it to be...................?
I'm surprised that Malcolm Allison didn't make the list, nor Bobby Gould for his 2nd spell in charge of us for that matter. On that list I'll go for Ian Atkins, partly for his treatment of Junior Agogo but mainly for his claim that "everybody knows that an Ian Atkins side doesn't get beat 4 - 0" after we lost 4 - 0 at Oxford.
if any of the managers on that list had the same backing from the board that buckle has had, i think some of them would of been ok. i'll pick malcolm allison from chelts comment. he was in charge of our 4 - 0 win over the 82ers
Martin Dobson was streets ahead of the others. Gerry Francis second time around wasn't much better. Paul Buckle shouldn't be anywhere near the list.
Please ..................................no contest Dave Penney hmm tough one only kidding worst of the lot however DP was as full of BS as Chuckle(s) Atkins Hoofball was agricultural in its delivery, although he just drew to many due to conservative style (better defence than Chuckle(s) Ray Graydon would not select anyone to play taller than he was !!hence the ball always missed the midfield and our defence was under pressure. Nightmare would be Atkins.........still at least we knew what we would get week in week out..........Rubbish
Penney doesnt deserve to be on the list either IMO. Only had a couple of weeks here. Brought in some good players but the rest didnt play for him. It was harsh on him and I would rather he was given this season to build as well. Buckle for his comments is a complete ****, but at least we do attack teams and occasionally win games. Atkins/graydon is the nightmare for me. Either one of them were one of the worst times in our history and both were shocking managers....
With regards to Penney when he took over the side it was when a fair few games had been cancelled due to the winter weather. He made the quite fair comment that the players were nowhere near fit enough when he joined which makes me wonder what the f**k was Patterson doing training wise after Trollope was relieved of his duties.
the players were not fit under trolls either. remember what southampton manager at the time said after they bought him? very unfit and overweight.
A striker who scored 30 goals in a season for Rovers is not unfit CJS, I think the berk Pardew was just being a pillock for the sake of it.
Lol fair enough, I think he was fit enough. We had a side of players who could maintain a top 12 finish over the course of 2 season at that point. If they were unfit, we would have struggled IMO.
