Well, I kind of view this slightly differently.
The deliotte money table shows where teams declare their revenues. (fake or otherwise)
Man city have now got to the point with a half empty stadium and no fans globally of having 644 million euros.
https://www2.deloitte.com/uk/en/pag.../articles/deloitte-football-money-league.html
We are 7th on the list and competitive with PSG, Man utd and Barca. we take in way more money that the likes of spurs or dortmund or arsenal or atletico etc.
It is then down to HOW you spend it. Clearly city have been allowed to dope their way to the top here and its writ large in their accounts. Fake sponsorship after fake sponsorship and this is the target now of madrid latest scheme.
Look to wage bills.
First LFC do not have a seperate shell company though which other staff are paid. we have to try look at the wage bill for the 25 man squads
https://www.footballtransfers.com/e...na-man-city-man-utd-worlds-highest-wage-bills
We can clearly see LFC are up there is wages again quite high but sustainable based on the revenues etc.
Why do we only pay 220k to our top earner then and 350k to 400k is the going rate and two players at PSG are on a mil a week supposedly?
https://salarysport.com/football/ligue-1/paris-saint-germain/ you can take a look here.
believe it or not even at PSG some people get bang average wages cos the league they are in means PSG can get away with it. Same at dortmund where they can pay one guy massive money unitl its time to sell.
https://salarysport.com/football/bundesliga/fc-bayern-münchen/
same at bayern, despite them paying quite a lot at the top of the squad.
So at LFC whats going on?
https://salarysport.com/football/premier-league/liverpool-f.c./
well even the lower paid in the squad are up in terms of the average salary and the depth of squad both count. We pay more people the 100k + wages compared to those clubs than these other clubs.
Our AVERAGE wages is about 120k per week. The median is about the same.
If you look at Batyern they operate a smaller squad, with an average of about 125k and median of 115.
in other words..... we might not pay the TOP wage but we spread it around more players and pay the same amount in the end.
IF you want superstars then pay them but if you want a squad that performs then pay who performs.
We've consistently rewarded performance over time and have a lot of high performing high earners.
What the club seem to be doing is tracking performance very very carefully and quite happy let anyone who might drop off go quickly.
look at the rewards:
Alisson 2027 contract. asset secured we are very very sure he will do well til then
Diaz 2027, really low relative intro wage. asset secured, can reward to keep longer as we choose.
Fabinho. 28 and staying til 2026. longest contract at that age. some confidence in this
VVD on big wages til 2025. will be 33. again confident his game will adapt as he's a man mountain and the organiser.
look at those don't have long contracts
Salah
Mane (gone and good riddance
)
Ox
Keita
firmino
Whats the common denominator there? performance? injuries? age? the club has weighed them all for whatever reason and made and offer or not.
