I am done with this board. I make a few comments and nobody makes an effort to respond. I make a comment on the cricket and St Brendy has never made any attempt to engage while Tom is reduced to acerbic comments. Archers and St Badger are the exceptions!! Jacks is brilliant for organising the Predition League. It has been nice knowing you but it is time to move on.

I have a cousin who has worked in care homes as long as I can remember.

She says pay is now pathetic .

Yeah I can confirm, my mrs works in recruitment for a health care firm.

She gets treated like crap, the care workers get treated like crap… I can only imagine how the patients get treated. The whole thing is just a **** show. It’s not through lack of effort or hard work on the carers part from what I have seen. It’s similar to the railway post - outrageously bad hours/pay/conditions.

I don’t think I can face putting my parents in a care home when it comes to it, knowing how they will be treated. Might have to think of alternatives

Ides please don’t go mate, your contributions are always welcome.

Vague possible nonsense but rumour is Starmer finds out if he is getting fined tomorrow.

If this is true on a potential bad news day for the Conservatives it makes me feel like it will be bad news for Starmer.

Remember how coincidentally the investigation was announced on the day the Conservatives were wiped in the local elections.

Not that I am suggesting anything underhand of course.......

Not all care homes are bad but what they do have in common is that they're all very expensive and nursing homes even more. I visited a lot when looking for a suitable home for my mother and they vary greatly. There are some extremely good care homes around so don't be put off by the horror stories you occasionally hear about them.

Yes .

It’s always the same . The carers 99.9% of them are caring people , you would have to be to want to do work like that in first place .

And because of that fact , the owners / Management of these private homes take the pi$$ .

Will Johnson and his supporters now get the message that he isn't wanted anymore?

Johnson is the guy who won’t leave the party until the last drop of booze and the last line of coke has been consumed, and who then tries to get the (married) hostess into bed as she ushers him drunkenly out the door. So, no.

Most sane people would like this to be the case, but Boris appears to be only concerned about himself, rather like Lord Farquaad in Shrek. At some stage the 'Men in Grey Suits' in the Tory party will usher Boris into a room and offer him a pen to sign his own resignation letter. I suspect that Jacob Rees-Mogg will still attempt to place a positive spin on things, probably by pointing out that everyone at Eton still thinks Boris is an awfully good cove, who always shared his tuck.

I wonder if the miners union, back in the 70s, had been led by a calm, eloquent and informed man, such as Lynch, instead of Scargill, the result of those strikes and the subsequent destruction of unions and trade union laws might have been different.
Scargill seemed to be universally hated, from what my memory tells me, which made Thatcher’s (spit) aim of destroying unions simpler.
Sadly, Scargill was an easy figure to demonise as, like “Red Robbo” at British Leyland, he was very extreme. I always felt that if Joe Gormley had remained in charge, there would have been a chance of some reconciliation. Sadly, once again, the media got hold of him and the miners and demonised them all. Personally, I’d have paid miners almost anything to go down the pits, as there’s no way you’d have got me down there!

Brits will have to pay to visit EU countries from next year as visa waiver fee introduced - Hull Live (hulldailymail.co.uk)

It is slightly misleading as it refers to the Schengen group of countries which ncludes most of the EUand Norway, except the ROI, So the Republic of Ireland it is!! See you all there in 2023.

I will likely be in Spain! Looks like my move is going to happen and the driving licence issue, that I PM’d you about, could be resolved by the end of July. Apparently everything has been agreed, just needs the wording of the documents to be checked and passed by the Spanish authorities to allow residents with UK licences to drive again, although there will probably be a necessity to exchange for a Spanish licence within a set period of time.
You will know if/when the move happens as I will change my user name.
