And as for the handheld scanners,I'm not doing that![]()
and this is the same logic I apply to the RMT Union. Automation is going to take over whether they like it or not, and companies will continue to bleed businesses of every little bit of profit possible, much the same as Treble's example above with the banks, because no one really cares.
Automation already exists in the rail industry as has for a number of years. This industrial action is not about automation, it’s about the government pulling £4b from the rail budget which can only be achieved by shedding 2500 jobs and reducing the modernisation program.
You trying to conflate automated checkouts and industrial automation is ludicrous.
Fight the power luv.I've decided to support the strike as I won't have to go into the office next month if they continue.
My son took me out for something to eat on Sunday (Fathers Day), I don't know the name of the place, but it wasn't what I would call cheap. Anyway got there it was busy as to be expected for such a day. Then my lad is ordering everything on his phone, I'm like what's going on here, this is not Wetherspoons. It appears on the menu is a barcode you scan and it takes you to a menu to order and you pay all on your phone, so just like Wetherspoons. This wasn't an app though like Wetherspoons, so I had to get him to show me what he did, because I'm getting left behind with this technology, it's all done through your phone scanner. Then later we took my grandson somewhere and that was pay on your phone as well, no cash options this time either. I'm getting left behind mate with it all, so it was a learning experience for sure.
. When i live in HK, there arent many foreigners so using the online menus was **** at a lot of independents as there wasn't any english or very limited pictures. In the end had to order by asking the workers.I love Google Pay, never take a wallet anywhere now.Yeah got caught out a few times in HK.
I learnt how to use that mobile scanning QR code **** in the UK last year when me and my cousin went out and didnt know how to use it like plebs. When i live in HK, there arent many foreigners so using the online menus was **** at a lot of independents as there wasn't any english or very limited pictures. Also didn't know how to use Google pay and i had some free money the HK government were dishing out to use. Found out my phone didn't support google pay so when i tried to pay nothing was going through (the app downloaded fine and everything looked fine). In the end had to borrow someones phone to use google pay.
Such a hassle

Thankfully I've got kids to show me mate, I don't know how people my age manage if they don't have kids. I've never used google pay, I've thought about getting my son to show me, then think, nah can't be arsed with it.
Good example mate, I was faced with a similar scenario when this first started happening over 20 years ago, so the bank I was with I took all my funds out and moved them to other banks. However, my own independent union action failed, because every other fooker was prepared to adapt to the banks requirements. Which again is another profit making objecttive as if they don't already make enough profit.
I'm not trying to conflate anything, I'm saying what I see, as I see it, if you see differently then that's your choice, but it's not the first time on this thread you've had a stab at me.
Banks have lost a substantial number of their premises to automation, that also resulted in the loss of hundreds if not thousands of jobs, so these are comparitives in one form or another of people getting shhite on at the expense of automation, my point being just because the RMT starts getting vocal, people suddenly start caring, yeah right.
Who cried for lost bank jobs for increased profits, plus the jobs that go offshore, who cried at the lost supermarket and petrol forecourt jobs to automation, who stopped using amazon because they killed the high street shops, I'll tell you who, no one cared. Every business is getting bled dry, but I'm supposed to care about railway workers, well it aint going to happen, whether you like it or not.
20 yrs ago I remember First Direct being the one. While it often had good customer service, I knew it wasn't for me because I felt it was the thin end of the wedge. That great customer service at the time was down to the business plan being focused around ppl being on the other end of the phone, but once that's achieved it always evolves to the next step, further streamlining and that usually means getting rid of the humans.
Imo it's more than just about profit, it's also about information, about control and a bit of "big brother" thrown in. The last two specifically to do with a cashless society.
I’m not having a stab, but for the last 2 days you keep mentioning automation, which has nothing to do with this industrial action by the rail unions.
You don’t like unions, we get it and it’s your choice. It’s been a reasonably good debate up to now, but I see you will make it personal, so it’s best I leave it.
You gone from profiling me on here to having stabs.
As I've said, I will have my view, you can have yours. I don't care if you don't see my view as reasonable debate, don't engage with me then if you feel like that, engage with people that agree with you, if it makes you happy.

As long as you have a fingerprint sensor activated you can pay what you want on it. Most I've paid was £1500 for some flooring. It's very secure much better than a card that if you lost anyone can use.yeah was thinking of migrating to it but for some reason i just don't trust it lol plus i don't trust the safety on my phone. I only ever do online banking on my laptop
Its actually really simple provided you have the right gear and the right setup. It was just a massive hassle because google blocked me re-adding cards because they thought it was dodgy with me being abroad. Took a few days to sort out because their team talk to you, acknowledge it but it needs to be escalated and reviewed
