Thanks for that, appreciate it. I haven't got many in my "stash" to do....got 4 at the minute, but can see how easy it is to accumulate the things. I've promised myself though that I won't get any more till I'm nearly finished the ones I've got. Not convinced that will happen though. I've only been doing them since Jan, 2019, and really enjoy it. Though it's great when they come out good, and pleased with the result, the thing I get from it most is the therapeutic side of it. I can go into my own little world for 2 or 3 hours, totally absorbed in what im doing. As you say, brilliant for stress relief...way more than I thought it would.
First time since about 1983/4 ish I bought a 40 channel CB about 17 years ago mainly for the PA to shout obscenities at lads I knew in town whilst driving past or other idiots on the road lol I was gonna hook it up to an aerial but heard it was absolutely dead and didn't bother. Seems to be a mini revival now since covid, and PMR getting popular too.
was quite busy in the area (durham/sunderland) when i came back on about 6 years ago, seems most of the sunderland lads have gone over to PMR but all you hear now are a few die-hards chatting on 19 now, pointless finding a channel, the old triple 5 is still used for the skip though and that can get busy. many have taken the ham foundation test as well, nice easy exam for all the bands as pretty much straight forward stuff and general knowledge
There's a North East net apparently. Search delboy on YouTube. He's a mag mind Ham doesn't appeal to me. I'm not knocking them, some are fine. But there's some right old duffers up their own arse on there who hate newbs/foundation license users etc. And most just chat about equipment, Ralgex and hip replacements
the 'north east net'was the north yorks net originally till our group joined in and the lad changed the name of it, delboy posts a lot and has/had a list of regular used frequencies, northumberland lads were on 38UK40 and we were on 36UK40, there were some durham lads on 40 but they all dropped off sadly, mainly due to modern day noise levels and few users, couple of our little group died, only in their early 50's as well, sad as hell. true about the hams mind, still many refuse to talk to foundation holders as 'not a proper license' because they had to do the old RAE, not our fault they made it easier to get more users...but amazing how many forget to use call signs when on a net
One of my mates loves all that Warhammer stuff. I give him a load of **** for it but I'm secretly jealous of good he's makes and paints them! I used to have a Hornby train set which was the ****ing nuts when I was a kid. Tempted to build one again but don't have the space to do it justice
That's a shame mate, You've probably guessed I'm many miles away from the North East. ? Have you took your amateur license ? They needed to make it easier to attract new blood otherwise it would of died on it's arse. Especially with some of the gatekeeping self appointed dorks on there . What they seem to forget whilst they consider themselves the hub of saviour if ww3 breaks out is that if the shìt ever hits the fan. Anyone will be allowed to transmit on any frequency they choose
aye, decided to do foundation and got it in 5 weeks, well 4 really as the tutor was away one week...was studying for the next one (intermediate) when i had my heart attack and since then i cant concentrate on anything or take anything in...keep going back to it as one day i hope to do it, if for no other reason than to prove i can do it. have to be fair though, most hams are ok if honest and far outweight the 'up me own arse' gang...going back to the models as we have gone astray a wee bit here, used to do loads when i was a young'un but i left them all without paint, when i did paint them they just looked like someone had hoyed paint on rather than they had been painted if you know what i mean, i am sh1te at fiddly things now and my painting is no better.
Well if there's a few lads on ham I'll consider it mate. But I can't be arsed with self appointed police arseholes And aye, sorry @Snaggey for hogging your thread.
No worries Nig, used to have a CB in the early 80's. Used to be canny before they went with the legal FM and all and sundry had one.
Many years ago a mate of mine spent months and quite a bit of his hard earned cash building a model aeroplane with a working engine. He took it up to Waskerley for its maiden flight over the moors, fuelled it up, started the engine, launched it and the last he saw of it, it was flying off into the distance never to be seen again. Poor bloke was gutted, not helped by the piss taking when he told us about it in the pub later.
I know someone done the same thing. He subscribed to one of them build a plane type magazine this. Got a part a week for two years or something....cost him a fortune, then still had to buy the remote control separate. He took it to the town moor in newcastle, launched it, and never seen it again...just flew off into the distance. I'm laughing away now just thinking about....I can just picture his face watching It disappear into the distance.
Same, it kept us entertained for years afterwards, his brother and I even had a laugh about it at his funeral last year.
A mate from Simonside said another mate of his came home from the rigs. Paid summat daft like £1200 for a drone and flew it off little haven beach. Went back to his car, left it on the roof, blew off as he pulled out of the car park and a van went over it
If your in Sunderland or close by send me a PM and I'll have a coffee and a biscuit ready...You'll have to slum it with me in the garage but I've stuff you may not have thought of that I'm sure you will have seen.......Tuesdays , Wednesdays and Friday are all okay. Any one into it is also welcome. .Nowt flash or owt, just modelling..
