I'd looked on the Multi Agency web page about the fair and it tells you loads about stopping places etc but nothing whatsoever about what actually goes on.

Police had to hold a line to stop two families scrapping on Saturday. Looks like a wonderful weekend.

I reckon it’s one of the main reasons for the meet up, to be fair you can avoid all the scrapping if you keep your eyes open. It’s very enjoyable if you can manage that.
The last time I went I drove into the wrong field and ended up right in the middle of all their caravans but they just said don’t worry mate we’ll keep our eye on it for you, my brain wanted to say no f ucking chance there will be knack all left of it when I get back but I said Cheers mate thanks a lot.

Somehow I expected the caravan sites to be reasonably organised like a normal touring site, ordered rows or groupings around a central green.

But nope, it appears they just turn up and park all over the place in groups that look like paintball splats, which I presume are family groupings.

Yet these sites have to have received planning permission!

God knows how a fire engine or ambulance would be expected to get to a specific caravan and there is no way that disorder would be allowed for any rally with normal people.

As a kid I went to Appleby Fair a couple of times with my cousin, who was one of the travelling fraternity, around 55-60 years ago, it was a great couple of days. It must have changed quite a bit since because it always felt pretty safe then but there seems to be loads bother every year now.

Yesterday, i was reading on a different post about a lad frightened to fart in case he had an accident and I thought about adding to it but decided against. But in view of this being new I’ve decided to lower the tone a little.
I once worked in an office that was one long room divided into 2 by a floor to ceiling glass partition, but the heating system was all one. One day one of the lads was leaning against the radiator and shredded a tremendously loud fart through it which vibrated along the pipes into the other side, from where an alarmed female voice demanded to know “what on earth was that!?” We all doubled up except for the red faced culprit who refused to enlighten her. Just thought I’d add this for what it’s worth.

Martin Lewis' pension credit warning advice as he slams 'national tragedy'
You can’t get pension credits if your partner gets enough they has to provide for you
Even if they dosnt provide for you

I’ve got a bee living in my garage. Everytime I open the door it hovers back forwards for a little while then flies out. But next time I open the door it’s there again. I like bees. They’re industrious, inoffensive and furry. And their spit is sweet. Anyone any idea why it would want hang around my dark and smelly garage?

A few years ago, I had an old, 8 foot long home made planter in the garden and needed shot of it. I had noticed that a large bee kept going in and out of one of the corners, so was a bit nervous about emptying it, and then breaking it up thinking that there might be a bees nest in there. As it turned out there was nothing there...nothing at all.
Apparently they are called "solitary bees" which are a bit different to other bees.
    I have copied a link...hope it works.

That is very enlightening, and interesting, thanks Snaggey. I always thought all bees either lived as colonies in hives or nests. This is the first I’ve heard of solitary bees. So that is what the lonely little fella is. Still think a garage stinking of rubber and exhaust is a strange place for him to choose to live in.

I sometime play golf with a member who is a bee fanatic, eats, sleep and talks bees.

Last time we played he showed me two bee colonies in trees around the course.

I am also allergic to bee and wasp sting, swallowed one drinking out of a beer bottle and ended in A&E.

Have friends who use to live in Long Marton close to Appleby, and dreaded the horse fair. Moved away now north of Penrith

They had a segment on the news last night about how to stay safe during this 1 day heatwave.
Like nobody from this country has ever been abroad to somewhere hot!!

    A separate rant....
The missus was watching this property programme last night with Sarah Beeney on, and she was advising this couple on their house renovation. She said...."adding glazing is a great way to bring light into the home".
You don't say!! These window thingies will never catch on.
