It was a bowler's pitch. It was a used track and not easy to bat on. Even the dew factor didn't even things out. Essex were never in that chase really which indicated a tricky wicket. When Vince struggles to score freely you generally know it's not easy to bat on. His SR was only 112 so yeah, I don't think we batted badly at all. 155 proved more than enough runs. Good bowling but smart batting as well to get up to a score where we could defend it.
James Fuller is close to being our player of the season so far, he's becoming indespensable in all formats.
It's a rare set of fixtures where only our own game matters. The other four sides competing for a top four place all play each other, so I don't really mind how they finish. And Somerset-Kent are both too far away, in opposite directions, to be of any massive concern to us.
Shocking PP. McDermott thinks he's Jos Buttler and that was a horrid shot by Prest. All on Vince at the top of the order again.
I thought I read during the week that this was going to be a fresh wicket, unlike the rubbish they usually bat on at Cardiff. But I'm not particularly convinced. I get the feeling that 140 could be alright.
Looks far worse than yesterday. But it's no surprise at Cardiff. That said, he haven't helped ourselves. It's common knowledge that cross-batted shots at Cardiff are not the way to go. Joe could have been lbw about four times - because unfortunately for him, that is his favourite shot.
I'm still not sure we've got our batting order right. Going forward I might be tempted to try Whiteley at 3, and maybe put Fuller back at 7.
