Yeah I know what you mean. What I would say is that the purple patch that Doherty had before he got injured was a level above anything I’ve seen from Royal. And I think he’s improved so much as well. But for us to make up the gap to liverpool and city we need even betterI like his enthusiasm and he seems to be a very popular member of the squad.
Similar personality to Aurier just without the tendency to wander off out of position and/or give away penalties every 5 minutes.
It's difficult to decide which of the RWBs to keep; Doherty definitely had the greater overall impact but if we're being honest, across the season as a whole, Emerson was the better player and was usually a solid option.
What the most recent fixtures have told us is that it would potentially be wise if we had rotating WBs next season, with a pair of flying WBs and a pair of conservative WBs depending on the oppositionI like his enthusiasm and he seems to be a very popular member of the squad.

For me, much like how Hojbjerg is the easiest of our midfielders to replace as we simply need somebody with the same workrate but with improved defensive abilities and passing, Doherty seems to be the easier RWB to replace as we need to find an attacking RWB and those are easier to find than a RWB who can keep our right flank secureHe’s a very solid defender in general, hard to think of many times where he’s been roasted by an opposition winger. He just lacks the technical ability to be a nuisance on the front foot, gets up and down well but you can almost guarantee when he’s in the final third he’ll either pass back or fail to beat the first man.
Doherty’s purple patch was decent but I think some really overhyped it as if he was doing Kane or Son things. He's definitely more of a RWB than Emerson but all in all he’s had less than 10 good games for the club in his two seasons.
Both players seem like very good guys behind the scenes but ultimately I’d be surprised if either starts our first game of next season, with one likely to depart in the coming months I’d imagine.

Great angle. Fair play to the Norwich fans applauding it, too.![]()
