We can confirm our retained list following the conclusion of the 2021/22 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

One-year options have been taken on goalkeeper Matt Ingram, defenders Callum Elder and Josh Emmanuel, midfielder George Honeyman and forward Mallik Wilks.

Midfielders Tom Huddlestone, Richie Smallwood and forward Tom Eaves will not be retained when their current contracts expire on 30th June 2022.

We thank all departing players for their efforts during their time with the club and wish them well for the future.

The 2 interesting ones for me are, keeping Emmanuel, maybe he’s recovered from whatever was wrong with him, then Smallwood leaving, this though, would make sense with Slater already here & probably an upgrade in the position incoming.
I also see Salam leaving the youth set up, I thought he was supposed to be one of the up & coming players?

He’s just never kicked on has Ahmed, 22 now he needs to be playing regular football. He’ll get a decent national league gig I reckon.

Honeyman rejected new terms offered on a contract extension so we enforced the option of the extra year. Other clubs will come sniffing with offers to buy him.
City will probably wait to see what new signings they can get done this window, then decide if they let Honeyman run down his contract or sell him in this window or the next. Interesting times ahead though.

The guy who met Elder said the same on Facebook. Did you hear it from anywhere else?

Honeyman rejecting the first offer is absolutely nothing to worry about or unexpected. Most players will reject the first offer or 2

Yeah. As far as I’m aware, activating one-year options just adds an extra year with no increase in wages or bonuses. I’d imagine Honeyman and his agent will want to negotiate a salary increase before committing to a longer contract for a Championship club with aspirations to get to the PL in the near future. The same will be true for KLP and Greaves.

Honestly, I think Honeyman, KLP and Greaves’ should be offered new contracts with 5 figure salaries. It makes sense as they are our three most important players in both the short and long term.
