Delighted to see Edwards get the job. Loads of very good coaches in the lower leage never get a chance higher up, for no credible footballing reason. Good luck to him, although Watford dont seem to be the club that practices patience.
They'll appoint Big Sam just before Xmas, then David O'Leary with 4 games to go. He'll be sacked just before the play off final and Hodgson will come back for the final
I have sympathy up to a pount... Coaches and managers are the most disposable asset in the eyes of a board and are often treated with no loyalty or respect. How many just get the bullet with barely a thank you and the next day in walks a new man. Now FGR may well be different, but managers in my opinion get shown the least loyalty so not sure they need to reciprocate, as a general rule of thumb.
Certainly be interesting to watch. They seem to like 2 or 3 managers each season. This is either a massive change in approach for them, or a strange decision to say the least.
How would you feel if Alex Neil left just after the play off final and started a job at Everton the next day?
Dog eat dog. If things weren't going the right way they'd be wishing him well on his future endeavours by Christmas.Tough **** springs to mind. Club like Watford come calling he has to take his chance. Parachute money etc. It's like Big Sam with us, we have been on a downward spiral since England came calling and I don't recall anyone shedding a tear. it's football.
I wouldnt blame him, how could you. We only saw fit to give him a 12 month deal, albeit rolling. As a fan I would be gutted he has gone, but I wouldnt want the club spouting two faced rubbish about loyalty, personally.
Well if he did it the way this seems to have been done? If he doesn’t tell the club as such and he just leaves and is then signs for Everton or Burnley in the championship? How do we know he didn’t ask for the 12 month contract? I’d be pissed off if it was done thing way this one appears to have been. If Neil asked for permission that’s one thing. To leave and join another club without that isn’t right imo.
I agree mate, yeah managers are sacked as a knee jerk reaction these days but they are well compensated for it. Some managers seem to take full advantage of this and get the sack, get a payout and join a new club a few weeks later. I'm convinced Jose does this as a little earner, every 3 years his teams go to ****e and he gets the boot!
I don’t think that’s the gripe. It’s the way it’s been done. If he asks for permission and the club say no, then that’s fair enough. If he goes to the club and they give permission then fair enough. But to seemingly go behind the club’s back to engineer a move doesn’t sit right with me
I totally get that mate, however, they could have been the bigger side of the issue and shown no anger, then let the story get out in the press. Quest were saying he was pretty much out the door the day they went up so it hasn't came out of the blue so to speak. Crackers situation really.
Sounds like FGR allowed a clause in his contract for this, i.e. he could go without consultation. Bottom line for me is clubs regularly go behind a mgrs back, line up a new fella, then bullet the existing one. It is rotten. Managers are treated like absolute garbage when clubs dont like their performance. Regularly they dont even pay the due compo in the hope a new club comes in. Here we have a club bleating because the tables have turned and a manager has done what is best for him. The club is saying it makes football look bad which is laughable nonsense. Football clubs, generally speaking, are a disgrace when it comes to how they treat coaches. I speak from experience. I put a thread up recently, about how football needs to change to protect mgrs more, but it got no response (probably dull as dushwater). I think fans, generally speaking, dont get it when it comes to mgrs coming and going. Not everyone is Mourinho and gets a big pay off, certainly not at this level and below. The bleating by FGR is frankly embarassing in my opinion, should have done more to keep him. What is the bet they could have sacked him with limited compo? I feel for fans of FGR, but lets be honest fans are the last group boards think of 99% of the time...
Sorry but they don’t. Not when a manager is doing well. And those managers who aren’t normally get a payoff. I wish we’d appointed someone the day after Johnson was sacked. The “when clubs don’t like their performance” part us exactly right. 99% of sackings are down to a manager failing at their job. It’s not exactly treating a manager like garbage when they’re relegating a side which should stay up and getting paid off when they’re sacked Even at this level their contracts have to be paid up on sacking. It’s not millions but it’s a lot more than I’d get if I was failing.
I wanted him when Johnson, left us. I'm glad we didn't get him, now. If this goes tits up at Watford and it probably will because of their record with managers he might have just blown what looked a very promising career.
Other than money, you wonder why any manager takes that job. You know you are going to be out of work in less than a year
