Pitiful defensive performance... why did we continue to push our defensive line forward when it was blatanly unable to deal with Arsenal on the counter? Load of ****. Good game for the neutrals I guess but Cech and Ivanovic were poor and Mikel was totally ineffective in my opinion. We should've at least claimed a point and got sod all.
A point might have been fair, but I don't exactly feel hard done by after that. The defense was horrible, Bosingwa got caught out too often.
It's AVB's style unfortunately and to prevent conceeding with this style we need different kinds of CB's to what we have which I'm sure no Chelsea fan will want. I think the addition of Cahill would help.
Scratch that, we need a whole different squad in order to play like that. For years these players have played defensively. The likes of Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole, Mikel, Lampard and Malouda have all been playing together for 3 years plus with defensive tactics and a defensive mentality and as such have been molded into such players, not with such a high line and ultra attacking. Arsenal on the other hand have been playing the exact opposite so we stood no chance playing them at their own game. There were gaps all over the pitch which the Arsenal players were able to exploit with all the time and space they were given and nobody closing them down. Cech was left exposed by the defence all game for the first time in years and looked clueless at how to deal with 1-on-1s.
I tell you now, Ivanovic looks clueless at CB and Bosingwa can just leave. If we are going to play a high line, we need to play Luiz as he is the only CB available with pace. Sadly, he has no discipline or positioning when defending so high line needs to be scrapped. The ideal back four is: RB- Ivanovic CB- Alex CB- Terry LB- Cole That's all we can realistically do with what we have now and we have to make the best of it. Zonal marking needs to be scrapped as well. 15 goals in 10 games conceded its embarrassing. Our midfield also needs tending to. Merieles must start in future, along side Romeu and Ramires. Mike is a solid performer but doesn't suit out new system. Lampard is past it, however it pains me to say it. Forwards a generally fine but Sturridge needs to sort himself out. Anelka should start at RW. Torres got absolutely no good passes today, which annoys me because he could have messed that back four up. Mata is pure class. Malouda is terrible and Lukaku is a 20mil Heskey.
I agree, but when Josh and Oriol play like top class players I expect better from a 20 mil player. I agree with the signings as well. Maybe Piererra my mates tell me he's sick.
True but Josh and Oriol don't have a £20m price tag on their shoulders. I'm sure he'll come good, he was amazing in the Belgian league but then again...it's the belgian league.
I know. That's why I worry when people say, "GET NEYMAR OMG OMG". Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm under the the impression that the Brazillain league has some of the worst defences ever. Watching Neymar play on YouTube in Brazil is like watching under-12s defend against Messi. Neymar against Kompany? I was disappointed when we didn't loan Lukaku to be honest. However, it doesn't excuse the way he lost the ball at times when other players could have run past the defenders.

AVB's job come with one great big huge rider. The owner wants to see attacking football. No future Chelsea manager can ensure a season without defeat while Roman demands this. It isn't about being the best, because even the best can be beat on any day. It is about tactics. You concentrate, run, watch, fight, battle 100% of the time. You rotate the teams human bodies and minds can not do this twice a week in such an intense league. Football is no longer a sport, and it is a sporting ideal to attack in football and play a graceful artistic game and win by three clear goals. Football is a business and a businessman gets the job done on time for lowest cost. To win and win and win, you need to start at the back with the defence and shut the other side out. We were there once.
