Has anyone had a ruptured ACL injury? What’s the likely course of action surgery/patience or both?

Yes I have
Mine was a multi purpose injury (ruptured ACL, torn PCL, snapped Lateral and hamstring tendon pulled out of the bone)
I had surgery!
Might depend on age etc, but if it’s unstable I might need surgery which tends to be a slice down the front of the knee, repaired then lots of physio
how bad is it? (I could fall over even without a drink with mine as there was nothing to support it so it all gave way regularly)

Was this anything to do with your friends bike accident? Thanks DBT - My ‘friend’ ahem.
It’s a ruptured ACL, Torn MCL, Torn LCL and an Oedema in the posterolateral corner. There’s also a tear in the miniscus. Done a good job on it by all accounts![]()

They took a graft out of my thigh (the fascia I think) and use that to replace my lateral as that was completely snapped and both ends knackered. They also drilled the bone and stuffed the loose end of my hamstring tendon in it and put the bone plug back in and let it heal attached again. Thanks DBT - My ‘friend’ ahem.

We’ve had a ski trip booked for 2.5 years. Kept rolling over due to Covid. Finally got to go before Easter and I was hit from behind by a totally out of control beginner. My skis and boots didn’t disengage and my knee popped twice. I was following my lad, there was only the two of us (He’s only 12) first thought was jump back on my skis and catch him up. Knee completely collapsed. Phoned the Mrs to tell her to scoop him up half way down. Stupidly, I said I’d walk downWhat you been up to now mate!!

I realised after walking a couple of hundred metres and it collapsing another 5-6 times that it was a ridiculous idea. Got recovered by a ski do. That was on the 12/4. I only got all my MRI scan results back on Friday - it’s not really sunk in yet. More mind numbing physio and rehabilitation on the cards. Sick as a pig. Thanks DBT - My ‘friend’ ahem.

But they really can do wonders. Mine was years ago and it’s absolutely fine now as long as I keep some strength fitness work up regularly
