This is a very good post Saint Lambden and for me addresses the point perfectly. Our facilities are first rate and sometimes loans don't work. What good does sitting on a league one bench do? Training every day with our first team is potentially better for his development. Nigel and his staff will know.
Add a clause to his contract stating under no cirmcumstances can Arsene Wenger and/or Arsenal buy/loan him ever, in all history.
If he was loaned out, the team would have to be selected carefully to continue his development. Otherwise, he'd be better to stay here. As to the value of loans, it hasn't done Jos any harm, though admittedly he's not as young.
I think he's on the bench today, purely speculating here and I know everyone loves twitter, but i think he may have given his place away. 1) He wished his u18 mates good luck today, (if he wasn't in the first team he would play for them for sure), 2) He looking forward to the match today (yes, i know he could just be watching 3) Le Tiss said 'Good luck if your playing' JWP said 'thanks' (he may just be being polite) 4) I might be just talking rubbish and he's injured. But if he was to be on the bench, does that mean Chaplow's niggles are a bit worse than thought? We shall wait and see.
It looks like Nigel sees JWP as being very close to the 1st team and is determined to continue his development. I would think he'd be on the bench today. Good luck to the lad if true. P.s. may also be related to his imminent birthday and our desire to get him to sign a contract.
Yeah i just love a bit of speculation, haha, but I agree you learn from the best and by being in the squad he will feel more involved with the team. I hope he is there to, he had a solid game against Palace and I am sure if he was given the chance today he won't let us down.
Our most likely bench is Bart, a defender, Morgan/Cork/Hammond/Chaplow, De Ridder, Barnard. With 7 subs, I'd put him on there without a doubt. I still don't see how 5 subs is better.
As you can still make 3 substitutions, the only point of 5 subs on bench is to favour the poorer sides. It certainly doesn't favour us as it cuts down the choice of a manager good at substitutions (aka Nigel Adkins) and prevents younger players getting experience. P.s. probably be changed next year (too late for us hopefully).
I'm all for JWP going out on loan but not just yet, dyer, surman and co did go out on loan but they went out when they are slightly older 18,19 then they are slightly older and can look after themselves when they go out on loan. Lets just remember he's only 16 lets give him for time with the u21 and first time and then if he needs some games then by all means loan him out. But it might be like AOC and theo who were ready for the first team at 16,17 and he won't need to go out on loan and will go straight into the first team.
I thought that too, presumably to keep kids comitted to their secondary education. Maybe they have changed the rules. If he signed it last year, he would have still been at school.
Which is in a few days... if he wants to jump ship before making it professional then he best hurry up.
pointless for him to be sent to a lower league, as very few teams play like us. He has been with us for years and can only play our way. So for experience in playing the Southampton way - he stays here and practices with the first team, or we send him to play for Barcelona
