We need to be more ambitious than Wood ffs. Wood isn't a great goal scorer, he has shown himself to be bang average. That was in a team that played hoofball and was good for a big man. We're not going to be playing that style of football going forward, so Wood wont be utilized well. He'll be a 3rd choice striker. Wilson, good when he's fit but injury prone. I don't care what Man City do, they're 7/8 years ahead of us at what they do. The have insane goal scoring midfielders, we aren't anywhere near that level.
All we need to do is build slow and steady though. We've spent 25 million on wood and if they spend 33 on this lad I'd say that's progress. The reports are there's another 90 million this summer and strikers are so expensive it's got out of hand. We can improve cb cm and am positions for the price of Nunez. It's 5 to 10 years not 6 months... Im trying not to forget that
Nah, unless we're willing to play the style of football to make a target man useful, then Wood is basically just a 3rd place back up striker. He's bang average at everything except heading on goal, but unless you're going to play target man football, Wood will probably score no more than 5-6 a season.
But we would have 3 very different options up front which we haven't had for years and like I say if you want then to waste the entire budget on a big name striker they'll have very little to strengthen elsewhere.
We cannot rely on wood so much that we should consider ourselves prepared. We should be willing to buy a striker that can come in and do the business now. Relying on a bang average target man, a 19 year old kid and a injury prone striker is not good.
Since wood signed newcastle has been the second best performing side in the league.. Wilson would also be available who's a very capable striker. This young player is hot property and exactly what they should be looking to add to the two proven senior prem players. Nunez etc etc in sorry but it isn't happening and the club isn't ready for that...
Do you really think Wood had anything to do with us being the best performing side? LOL. No. Wood has been bang average, he's had a couple of good games. He was good vs Wolves who were absolutely shocking, but apart from that game and the southampton game, he's been simply the best option we had while Wilson was out. His only competition was Gayle.... let that sink in.
Oh ok, so because you're playing in a side that's good it must mean you're good! No other explanation!! Wood is awesome. Case closed.
Just because wood has been playing in a good side, doesn't make him good and it doesn't justify playing him going forward. As ASM has proven, you can be a **** player with good players around you and can make minimal contribution to the results. You don't need an entire team of good players to get results. Wood has scored 2 goals since he came, and hasn't assisted any. He's shown himself a bang average player, and hasn't done anything remotely impressive. He's not been terrible but he's not really done anything to justify the £25m price tag.
I never said otherwise, but ultimately if we're winning he's doing his job. My point as I've stressed on numerous occasions now is that we'd have Wilson Wood and this hot prospect. We don't have hundreds of millions it's about 70 to 100 and we'd be able to strengthen cm amr cb and lb for the price of a fancy name striker... A fancy name striker that won't sign anyway because they've got better options.
If we're only going to sign one striker, I'd prefer it not be that kid. Like I said, if we're going to be relying on Wood and Wilson next season, that's not good, because Wilson WILL get injured at some point, and Wood is not good enough. I completely disagree with your logic that because we're winning HE'S doing his job. No, he's not the primary contributor to our results at all. He's not playing that much of a part in the goals we score. You could slot many players into the CF position and we'd get the same if not better results, as many others would score more goals in that side. Wood is a target man, he's not in a side that plays to his strengths. Unless we play target man football, it's a complete waste of time playing him unless no one else is available. I never said anything about a fancy name striker, but I'd prefer us not to sign a 19 year old who may take years to develop. Essentially Wilson would be our number 1 striker option in that scenario, and he cannot be relied upon for fitness, and then we've got Wood... again. I don't ****ing care how many times you've "stressed on numerous occasions... Don't keep repeating that as if I'm not getting it. I ****ing get it. I just don't agree it's good enough, because it's not.. for reasons' i've stressed numerous ****ing times.
Injury prone? He's injured all the feckin time! Just like Gayle and Carroll. That reminds me of people who put Woodgate in our all time XI, we could never rely on him cos he was always out. Wilson will never be part of the solution. Wilson can't even be a stand in cos he'll be too injured to make the subs bench after "picking up a knock in training". We need to spend big on a striker, with Wood filling in as back up. Time to give up Gayle and probably give up on Wilson too.
I reckon a good and possibly feasible window would be CF - Ekitike AM - Paqueta RW - Diaby LB - Targett CB - Botman / Badashiele / N'Dicka That makes us loads stronger and is probably more than we would spend
