Any links so I can have a read ? But surely if it deters people smugglers, and illegal channels then it’s a good thing ? (Obviously this is up for debate) Get your point about arming the Saudis, however after listening to the Conflicted podcast, I’m not so sure they are the bad guys I originally thought them to be.
Because Rwanda has an awful human rights record and is already overcrowded (twice the population density of the UK). Plus it almost certainly breaches the Geneva convention on refugees. Any sent there won't ever be reaching Britain, but then that's you want, I suppose. Check out what happened when Australia sent its asylum seekers to Nauru.
Is the human rights record now in Rwanda that bad ? From my brief research it doesn’t seem any worse than places we would say are holiday destinations, such as Dubai or Mexico. And why do you say any sent there won’t ever be reaching Britain ? Are you saying that the process won’t be fair.....and if so have you any proof of this or agin, is it just an emotional statement (I’ll ignore the dig) Will look up the Nauru thing...hadn’t heard of it.
A real dilemma': Warning Putin could strike NATO base to stop transfer of weapons to Ukraine William Hewett 22 hrs ago A former UK security chief has warned Vladimir Putin could strike a NATO base to stop the transfer of weapons to Ukraine. Lord Peter Ricketts, who was the British government's first national security adviser, said the Russian President is becoming "increasingly desperate to choke off the flow of arms" to Ukraine. He said Putin wants the world to fear that he will use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. "I suppose what President Putin wants us all to fear is that he might want to use a nuclear weapon in Ukraine, which would be a momentous escalation and ensure Russia was isolated around the world," he told the BBC. "More likely, I think what they're looking at is some way of preventing or limiting this flow of arms into Ukraine, keeping the Ukrainian Armed Forces going. "So we may see attacks on convoys or aircraft bringing the arms in from the west." please log in to view this image © Provided by Newshub Lord Ricketts told the BBC the way Putin might stop the transfer of weapons to Ukraine is by attacking aircraft or convoys headed to the country from NATO. "At worst, possibly, some kind of missile strike on a base in NATO, where the arms for Ukraine were being prepared," Lord Ricketts said. "And that will certainly pose the NATO countries with a real dilemma." Lord Rickets was worried the Ukraine invasion is moving towards "an angry stalemate, where Russia will hold on to quite a large part of the country" and Ukraine will not agree to a settlement deal. He believed the invasion could continue for "years and years to come" as a guerrilla war like an "open wound in the middle of Europe". The Ukraine invasion has been ongoing since February 24, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy saying between 2500 and 3000 of his troops have been killed in seven weeks of war with Russia and about 10,000 have been injured. There was no count of civilian casualties, he told CNN on Friday. He said between 19,000 and 20,000 Russian soldiers had been killed in the war, now in its eighth week. Moscow said last month that 1351 Russian soldiers had been killed and 3825 wounded. Meanwhile, a C-130 Hercules set off for Germany from New Zealand on Wednesday morning with 11 of the 50 personnel who will help transport and distribute military aid to Ukraine without entering the country. The group is part of a 50-strong crew heading to Germany to help get weapons and aid into Ukraine as Russia's attacks on civilians escalate. New Zealand Defence Minister Peeni Henare hasn't ruled out the possibility of the NZ Defence Force entering Ukraine. putin must be ****ting himself
sorry no links just heard it several times, could be bollocks that’s doing the rounds however just a little bit from amnesty. https://www.amnesty.org/en/location/africa/east-africa-the-horn-and-great-lakes/rwanda/report-rwanda/ Putting aside any conflict in the Yemen, which is pretty horrific tbh. Saudis have appalling human rights especially for women and even more so to the lgbtq+ community. I’m not exactly sure this will deter people smugglers either, if people are desperate enough to make this journey, the possibility of a trip to Rwanda is most likely to be seen as another potential hazard
Here in the U.K. we often mock the Americans for the gun culture… yet the U.K. sells weapons to various nations. Surely the U.K. should knock that **** on the head.
Would like to see more evidence rather than hearsay mate…….But not saying the rumours aren’t correct. I’m really not to sure if it will be a deterrent or not…..however if I was paying thousands to people smugglers, to get on U.K. shores, if I knew that when I handed myself in then I would be processed further away than when I started. That might be a deterrent…..but as I say, I’m not in that position. About Saudi…..what’s your take on the Yemen conflict ? Interested if you hold the big bully against Freedom fighter narrative. I certainly did until a month ago when I had my eyes opened a bit…..(thanks Steels/Raving)
And why do we do that (apart from profit)……who do the Saudis fear and hate the most ? It’s all a game of chess
