And interesting side subject developed on the Saint Thread. I though it might deserve it's own platform. Who do you like or dislike without really having a reason? I have always quite liked yeovil, Swindon, York, Carlisle, Doncaster, Celtic, Villa and Sheffield Wed. I have always disliked Blackburn, Bolton, Fulham, Wigan, Spurs, Palace, Leeds & West Brom. No reason, just when two of these play each other and the game is on tv, I will tend to not bother watching. If they play somebody else I tend to side with the other team. Why do we feel this way? Odd isn't it.
You can't like all 92 clubs I reckon Never liked Coventry (bogey team) and palace (**** ground) Like teams were I have lived at temporarily, so reading, Sheff utd and Sheff wed Euro teams as well - like Ajax. Dislike juventus a bit and I don't know why
Disliked West Brom for a bit after they survived in the 2004/2005, but I've finally got over it and now like them. Disliked Cardiff under Dave Jones, don't know why. Dislike Reading due to the Cech incident. No problem with Coventry myself, not old enough. Like Cambridge United as I am a student in Cambridge.
I have a soft spot for: Lincoln (went to Uni there), Luton (local), Peterborough (local), Yeovil (Football Manager) Bournemouth (Champions League Glory on FM), Oldham (Neil "olroight Neil" Adams), Macclesfield (No Reason), Brentford (Mrs Supports Brentford). Dislikes: Wallsall (after they pissed us about in LG1), Tranmere (bribing the ref and making us look like tools), Swansea (ruining my holiday by humiliating us 3-0), West Brom (No idea why), Reading (Grant Holt Red Card), Portsmouth (Spend megabucks to get promoted), Ipswich (Local rivalry obviously) Hates: Wolves (grown man called me a ****er as a 13 year old).
I've found over the years of watching lots of random football matches in a lot of different places, that I've come to like and dislike a lot of clubs for either no reason, or very trivial reasons. Like: Leicester (my uni city), Doncaster, Preston, Cheltenham, Plymouth, Lincoln, Dislike: Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, QPR, Wolves, Cardiff, Ip5w1ch (obviously), Birmingham, Sheffield Wednesday, Tranmere, MK Dons, Colchester, Hereford, Bradford.
Most likes and dislikes have a reason. Like: Charlton (Wife's team) Dislike: Wolves (Muscat) Like: Swansea (play football the right way), Dislike: Chelsea (everything that is wrong with football) However I have absolutely no reason to follow the results of Telford Utd (now A.F.C Telford) and similarly no reason to be pleased at the continued failure of Northampton Town. Has anyone else got absolutely no reason to love/hate an obscure team?
My likes are West Ham Utd (Just always had a soft spot for them, no idea why!) Peterborough Utd (Used to live near and watched them some years ago) Lincoln City (Used to live near and watched them some more years ago) Raith Rovers (Thanks to an uncle), Hearts - Used to live in Scotland too and regularly watched these two Sunderland (Milk Cup Final connection) Serious Dislikes (Hate is too strong a word) Wolves (Muscutt & horrible fans) Cambridge Utd (The Peterborough connection) Man Utd (Big headed plastics) Liverpool (Media darlings with their unique whit! My arse )
Thai - I lived in Lincoln for 21 years! When you say you lived near Lincoln, and near Peterborough, was that at the same time? ie somewhere like Market Deeping, between the two of them?
I was working for Anglian Water for 18 months in Lincoln. Was 1993 - 1994. Nipped down for midweek games if Norwich were not playing. Still drove to Norwich for midweek home games too despite it taking over 3 hours to get there (seriously horrible journey) At that time I was living in Warboys, near Huntingdon so was closer (and easier) to go to Peterborough for the POSH, started to enjoy some of their games. That would have been from 1992 - 2004
That is such a Leeds view. Anyone but Leeds, exactly what a mate said to me at a wedding last week, followed up by where is carrow road anyway? To which the obvious answer was; in the premier league and you won't be visiting! Likes: Darlington, good ol darlo, maybe from uni days in Newcastle, but never developed a like for the toon army. Dislikes: For no reason, Southampton, Stoke, Reading.
Me too for the same reason, hate West Ham for stealing Green and Ashton and other reasons, i was very happy to see Brum go down and their Thai owner get investigated.... Like Arsenal because i lived next to the Emirates watching it get built and used to watch matches at Highbury by turning up 5 mins before Kick off to get some £2o bargain Champs lg tickets from touts.... I like most other London teams except Chelsea, super arrogant plastics..... Like Orient, even when they KO d us from the FA Cup i was chuffed for them....... Hate Leeds they are living in a bubble from their past glories and still believe they are world beaters. Like Montpellier, used to stay there with my ex girlfriend wicked city and they go up and down the French lg like we did.. Like Inter and Ajax hate Juve and the French national side..
Alright, Loiner? Grew up supporting Celtic because I was at a Catholic school and everyone else did! Soon changed to my home team once I started going to games, but still have a soft spot for them. Also Swansea - was staying at an aunt's there during the world cup finals which England won! Always stayed with me. Colchester (but don't tell 'you know who!) Dislike: Wolves (yep, Muscat) Also Leeds - have some very odd fans (see above)
The taxi firm I worked for up there had the prison contract, so I've been in Lincoln prison many times! Had some good days out on that contract, always a free meal at the drop-off prison, bloody good food too!
i hate coventry city so much what is the point of coventry city? what is the point of coventry full stop? i hated highfield road. i hate the ricoh. i hate david speedie. i hate gordon strachan. i have no reason to hate anything to do with coventry so why the heck do i hate them so much??? i got annoyed during the summer cos i noticed they changed their badge and i quite liked it! i got angry with myself for saying 'ooh, thats nice'!! i also hate that they just won't get relegated. just get relegated for goodness sake - you need it to happen for your and my sanity coventry fans! just piss off down the divisions and don't come back! its so irrational
