I'm getting a tad confused by the reporting of numbers here........ According to our COVID Tracker App there were 9324 new cases today, but according to RTE there were 19866 new cases today, 9324 PCR confirmed cases and 10542 positive Antigen tests reported via the HSE (NHS) portal......... it seems we are in the middle of a new surge and hospitals are beginning to struggle but it's now basically a free for all so no surprise that numbers are rising, but what is the actual number??????
I read 1,000,000 cases in last week 1 in 16 have it But tbh I have no idea where they get that figure from. My daughters family all had it (4), but went unreported. So no idea at all I am sure we are in a massive surge, but due to a mixture of omriconb being a milder form and the wonderful vaccine we are just getting a moderate to bad cold in most but certainly not all cases
If the experience of Denmark, which opened up totally a bit earlier than England, is anything to go by this wave won’t last long. Interesting that places which still have mask mandates don’t seem to be doing any better than those that don’t, if you look at rates between U.K. nations.
UK and Thailand have similar populations, 67.2 million UK, Thailand slightly higher 69.8 million in 2020. Density 281 pr Km2 UK, Thailand lesser density 137 pr Km2. Per Google Yet the UK (not so much mask wearing) has a total of 20.8 million infections. Thailand (mask wearing by law when you leave home) 3.5 million total infections. UK 165K total dead, Thailand 24.7K total dead. The UK have also vaccinated more and with far more effective vaccine mostly. Per Norwegian media. So the UK has about 6 times as many Covid infections as Thailand, and nearly 7 times as many deaths. This dramatic difference can be partly explained by the higher population density and colder weather in the UK, but I think as well very much because people in the main wear masks when they leave home in Thailand.
It's certainly rife at the moment, 4 staff where my wife works went down with it at the end of last week, she tested positive on Tuesday and I've finally succumbed to the lurgi today. Several family members who met for Mothers Day have all tested positive as well. We're simply going to have to live with it and boosters for the foreseeable...
It's okay sooper....the numbers will be on the down from today. In a month the numbers will be down to single figures. Nobody can test unless they pay for a test. ( or are exempt...for a very few people). A few people will be super cautious and isolate when they have any of the symptoms ...covid or not. Others will circulate with symptoms. Vulnerable people will die of something... But bottom line Covid is a thing of the past..
I actually bought some test kits as I need to test regularly in my job but many people won't bother. We should be thankful the vaccines have been effective in reducing symptoms...
We are very thankful for the vaccines they have saved so many lives. And the Government is now trying to sell off the vaccine centre in Oxford ( raised with public money!!!!) AND shown to be so brilliant in the pandemic..... to the pharma industry.... B@st@rds
"Covid is a thing of the past". I was only reading today a couple of viroligists saying the opposite. One warning the next variant could be far more dangerous than Omikron and that the idea future variants will be weaker was a fallacy.
Oslo...do you not recognise the "tongue in cheek " tone of my post. In UK...it is over...as we have stopped testing...we will have " no" cases...
So sorry to hear that Jeff. How are you feeling... and thank you for staying at home ...now the Government have decreed you do not have to, they only suggest you do. So thank you for being so responsible. I really really really hope that the Rs give you a get well win too
Thanks Beth, get constant headaches & feverish, throat a bit iffy but ok, bloke at work in same came in wed & went home after about 2hrs & then phoned in to he’s positive, thank him very much! Only do temp work now as retired, and yes hope the Rss give me a perk up, I’ll watch it on QPR +, enjoy the match
