By their policy of “Identity Politics”, Bob……I’ve only mentioned it once or twice I’m sure. Instead of trying to unite us as a working class, of all races and genders…they are happy to emphasise and seize upon our differences, thus dividing us and making easy for the Tory scum to rule.
Go about what ? Labour has engineered its own demise and gives those in the MSM the ammunition to attack them
Sadly our media (and the world’s media to be fair) has moved from just reporting news facts to sensationalising todays news. Scaring individuals and groups; dividing up people into sections (haves/have-nots (or ultra-rich / rich / not struggling / struggling / poor / ultra-poor); black/white/yellow etc.; religious faction this and that; mental health; sexuality). It seems they want to pick-on and scare people - leaving most of them helpless to do anything. When I watch news programmes looking for reporting of what is happening, I’m left in a $hit-fest of sensationalism designed to scare me rather than inform me; which ultimately leaves me backing away from our news media. I don’t wish to be divided from those around me, just given the news so I can form my own feelings and opinions.
Identity politics is a political approach wherein people of a particular gender, religion, race, social background, social class, environmental, or other identifying factors, develop political agendas that are based upon these identities. Thats what every party surely does. Your pal Galloway has been one of the biggest culprits for this in the Bradford area!
Identity Politics, by its nature, divides people. It turns people against each other and fosters jealousy and hatred between us, when we all should share the same agenda.
Well i can safely say that labour hasnt had that effect on me. I would say the biggest contribution to dividing people and turning them against each other was the referendum on the EU. The country has never been the same since and certainly not for the better.
Isn’t class politics also identity politics? Just another way to badge people. Why is your class a better or less divisive badge than your skin colour, or sexual orientation?
I think the Guardian of the past would have liked to be thought of as equivalent to the Telegraph, or even The Times. But it's become largely a joke with woke themes that don't bear any resemblance to the electorate's reality. It's circulation figures dropped sharply over the last 10 years, and it no longer publishes them.
The opposite of identity politics is essentially meritocracy, and policies offered by parties to all, but particularly their traditional voters, based not on race or sexuality, but on stuff that has a universal appeal like education, health, economy etc. Instead we have a Labour leader that cannot tell you whether women have penises, and a deputy Labour leader who refuses to discuss it
Don’t let Bracknell see that…you pearl clutcher. You should really give the Conflicted podcast a listen…..think it would definitely be your thing and would welcome you comments
