The amount of money this government has wasted on ppe contracts for friends and donors is astonishing! Much of that ppe is is/was totally useless. There should be outrage from the public considering they are taking us back to the dark ages!
Oh lovely, nice to see my area gets the biggest rise - ****s. One of the most deprived areas of UK and they are hammering them with this ****e
Utilities should be brought back into the public sector, any profits could then be ploughed back into the community.
Certainly something needs to be done.
This government has to do more to help people through this unprecedented period.
Our joint gas and electric bill has almost doubled for next month.
It really is going to cause hardship up and down the country. Many will fall into poverty which will be hard if not impossible to get out of. All happening whilst we find out just how and where they have spaffed so much money to the already rich. Disgusting
Compulsory Re-Nationalisation by the state of the utilities would be neigh on impossible under EU regulations.
It's not just the UK where these hikes are happening........
We have no price cap here and our last 2 monthly bill covering mid Dec to mid Feb was >€100 more than the corresponding period in 20/21 even though we used >100 units of electricity less this year. The Government have announced that every household will receive a €200 credit on electricity bill from March to help ease some of the hardship........ They also encourage us to shop around for best deals, I've just got a deal giving me 41% discount (up from 28%) on the unit rate plus a cash back of €100 to be credited during the 12 month contract, this has bought the standard rate tariff down from 30c to roughly 18c and the night rate from 14c to 9c per unit. Fortunately we have an air to water heat pump so we have no gas or domestic oil costs, a single fill for 900 litres home heating oil costs roughly €800 due to recent price hikes and most houses would get 2 or 3 fills of oil a year..........

Actor Noel Clarke will not face a criminal investigation over sexual offence allegations, police have said.
The Metropolitan Police says there is not enough evidence against him.
In 2021, The Guardian newspaper published allegations of misconduct from 20 women who had worked with Clarke.
The incidents included complaints of groping and sexual misconduct between 2004 and 2019. He has denied all allegations.
The Met has released a statement saying special detectives had carried out a "thorough assessment" of the claims, but "determined the information would not meet the threshold for a criminal investigation".
Clarke, who is best known for his work in Kidulthood, Adulthood and Brotherhood, has always "vehemently" denied "any sexual misconduct or criminal wrongdoing".
The 46-year-old has previously said he was "deeply sorry" if some of his actions had affected people "in ways I did not intend or realise", and vowed to get professional help "to educate myself and change for the better".
Last year, Sky stopped producing Clarke's series Bulletproof following the allegations.
Bafta also suspended his membership after awarding him the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema title.
In their statement, the Met Police added: "We have shared our findings with the third party organisation and updated the complainants who subsequently contacted us following the initial report".
"If any further criminal allegations related to those already assessed are reported then it will be thoroughly considered".

The French seem to manage OK with state-owned utilities. In fact they own a lot of ours, too.
Oh, and we're not in the EU.
