Just home Subdued start to a national week on the piss. Actually good result for both teams. Should give England the kick up the jacksie they need and tells Ireland to cop the **** on. I think 15–15 England win by 10-12 as predicted. Would not be surprised at all if England beat France. Strange 6 nations TBH. Bigger issues tomorrow v Luton
No doubt at all who the moral Victors were in that game, truly unbelievable performance from England for 60 minutes until the legs inevitably went. I don't have much sympathy for the red card, under current laws it was a pathetic piece of play and cost us dear. Having said that I thought the referee's performance was one of the worst I've ever seen, **** was clueless and the amount of things he got wrong along with the touch judges was bordering on criminal. Ireland are a strong side but have their limitations, England if they can play with that spirit all the time and curtail the idiotic individual errors will as usual be much tge greater threat in the World Cup !
Yep, spot on ref was poor. Ireland could have had a yellow card on several occasions. Still think the red card was tough though. Was very impressed with Englands resilience. This should also silence those who were crowing about Ireland. Deffo trying to play a better brand of rugby BUT with serious limitations
To be fair to Ireland, given the 14 v 15 circumstances, we didn't see the best of their play yesterday. They got the job done. It was a good clean, competitive game (Ewels's aberration excepted), so credit to both teams. If England show the same heart against France, and keep their discipline, we could be in for a helluva match.
Didn't see any of the game as I was in the theatre from 1pm doing our final two shows. Sounds as though the red card was correct under the present head injury rules, but clearly ruined the game as a fair spectacle. Surely they should write intent into these rulings? Then a yellow could be given if it's clearly accidental. I didn't see it so I don't know if that was the case or not. Sounds as though England showed huge courage and determination, which is a good sign going forward. Hope we smash the French and do Ireland a favour.
Personally Col I think the sending off made the game as a spectacle, although it made the result inevitable. The England players had to think on their feet and throw whatever tactics Jones had given them for the game away, play on heart as well as head, and it looked great. Of course at this level 14 can never beat 15 over 80 minutes, but for 65 it was close. The more I see the sending off the more completely justified it looks. Not malicious but shockingly poor technique, leading with the head at head height, arms coming round as an afterthought. The bloke he hit was clearly concussed, ended his game. This is exactly the type of tackle the rule makers are trying to stop happening. None of the mitigating factors listed in the rule book applied, ref had no choice. Wilkinson, Woodward and O’Driscoll in complete agreement on this one.
Just watched the highlights of England v Ireland. Sam Warburton was ripping into England for being short of numbers in defence. What the actual ****? They only had 14 players you thick twat!
We had Curry and Sinkler go off injured too before the last quarter where we ran out of gas, another Warburton talking absolute bollox
Really important that they showed they can still create the odd upset, their place in this tournament rightly questioned given such a poor recent record.
Could be a stroll for Ireland, good intent from Scotland but really struggling to threaten. and as I write that they score. Note to self, shut up. Although the video ref really didn’t want Barnes to award it. Are you there @QPRNUTS?
I've been dragged to the den of iniquity that is Paisley to watch this stuff....I've no idea what is going on, but think they'll all be France supporters later, which will be a joyful evening for me if we win
They’ve got Wayne Barnes’ microphone volume turned up to max for this game, never heard so much from the ref. Ireland doing everything but score. And now they do.
Ireland ground out the bonus point needed just to put a bit more pressure on France........ Not sure what the hell Hogg was doing going for personal glory when a simple inside pass meant 7 points under the posts when Ireland were only 9 points ahead......... Not the best performance by Ireland but it shows how far they've come when there's frustration when winning and scoring 4 tries.........
Big big ask First 20 minutes massive. Keep it tight, keep discipline and stay in the game. An amazing atmosphere in that stadium. Silence the crowd and you’re half way there
