so it's absolutely wrong to cheer for a russian gangster (during the minute silence is a bit scummy but this wasn't in your article) but it's okay to cheer on a suspected rapist (suspected in the sense that nonce andrew also isn't a convicted ***** women trafficker)?

There's no comparison. One has been sanctioned by the UK government ffs. His club has been ostracised by the whole world as a result of his links to a dictator who's invaded another country and they can't blow their nose without asking for special dispensation. The other is not a rapist and has nothing to answer for, except being the greatest goalscorer of all time <---- I think I heard Alan Shearer say that yesterday on MOTD <whistle>

yea but as you know the sanction is all to do with politics and not for being a russian gangster which he has always been (i'm taking everyones word for this).

In the official government statement, he owns a company that is supplying steel to make russian tanks (i'm sure we don't supply anything to russia). We certainly don't buy their oil to supply them with money and none of our companies (BP and Shell) have any interests that supply russia with anything.

The other is not a rapist because the case against him was on leaked documents which implicate ronaldo but because they were secret cannot be used (again i take this from what people have posted from der spiegal and i can't be bothered to go into it) and also he'd paid her off. Like i said, he's another nonce andrew in that respect but that's fine

Mate whether it's politics on not, there's a Russian army currently killing thousands of innocent folk in another country. That's real, however much you want to deflect. And your owner is currently sanctioned as a result. Another reality. For your fans to be crass enough to bury their heads in the sand at what's going on right now and sing his name is fcking scummy, sorry. Your name-calling at Ronaldo as some sort of defence is beyond ridiculous tbph.

I'll happily call out abramovic if he is supporting the war directly and is involved in killing innocents in the war. The invasion of ukraine is a travesty and lots of innocents are dying for no reason except for Putins pig headedness. You are correct, it is scummy of the fans to be chanting Abramovics name with the ongoing situation.

I'm just pointing out that it's just as scummy to be cheering on Ronaldo and totally hypocritical to totally ignore one over the other now that it's been mentioned.

It's not though mate.

Look, before Roman was sanctioned and before Russia invaded Ukraine, if Chelsea fans sung his name on the terraces nobody was criticising them. But the moment the war started, people started getting killed and he was sanctioned, your fans should've realised this WASN'T about them anymore but about the poor folk being killed and any chanting of his name was sticking two fingers up to their plight. They didn't have to vilify him, that's understandable, but they didn't need to tell the world, fck you, either.

Ronaldo has no conviction, no sanctions, has nothing to answer for. Just because Andrew was a nonce and a ***** trafficker, does that mean everyone accused of a sexual assault should now be considered guilty until proven innocent? Everyone yeh? Is that the new rule is it? Is that what people are going to do now, against anyone they happen to dislike? Utter bollox. BUT I'll add this, IF he's found to have raped anyone then nobody at United will be chanting his name, unlike the Chelsea fans at Norwich.

Yeah agreed here, i didn't really think about it like that until the post you have responded to which i mention this. You are 100% spot on.

Tbh the Ronaldo thing was just a bit of bantz that got out of control. I have read that the leaked docs made it more than circumstantial though but I'm not close enough to what was in the docs (plus i inherently dislike things shown on the internet as its 99% made up).

My original post was just how I was feeling not aimed at anyone on here tbh, I blame @brb <whistle>
