But that aside, Forest got relegated 14 years after winning the league, it's (guessing) what about 35 years since Everton has won the league. Everton's title days seem like ancient history to most.

Obviously Everton bigger club than Forest now, but not so obvious who is bigger: Forest 93 or Everton 22.

Forest haven’t been in the top division for 23 years, ends there really.

But I'm not comparing Everton and Forest of today. I'm comparing them at the time they went down to now. At the time they went down their title was in semi-recent memory, as was their back to back European titles.

I won't dispute with you that in 2022 Everton are a far bigger team than Forest...that's obvious



But Forest of '93, when they got relegated, still had some respect and was still considered a fairly big team..

Another one to consider. Blackburn.

They got relegated just four years after winning the title. Obviously don't have the history or fan base of some of the others suggested...

But pretty shocking reversal of fortune. Is a team that won the title four years previously bigger than a team that hasn't won it for 35 years? Hard one to call. It's hard to call Blackburn a big team even in the mid 90's... But that was a very recent winner to go down.
 
I don't think there's really been any massive, or perhaps a better word would be "relevant" side that's gone down, not in recent memory anyway.

Teams that go down have generally been in a decline for at least a year or two, some longer, often finishing mid-table to bottom half the season before then canning it the next. Has there been a team that's say finished inside the top four/ six one season then got relegated the next? To the point where their relegation is a huge surprise and shock because they were generally considered one of the top sides in the league?

When sides like Newcastle, Villa and Leeds all went down they had at least one bad season the previous one, so their relegations were almost inevitable when basing it on recent history. Everton have been midtable for a couple years and are now 17th, I don't think they'll go down but equally wouldn't be completely shocked if they do. There's little about them nowadays, I bemoan some of the players in my team but there's a **** load of gash in that Everton side. Their transfers are so odd too, often either massively overpaying on average players or taking cast-offs that are cast-offs for a reason...
