Sunderland?

Newcastle a few times?

Blackburn?

Will Everton be the biggest out of them?

How do we measure big?

If its consistent lower table finishes for 27 years and no silverware In that time is big then Peej is bang on the money there.

Chelsea and Spurs were bordeline yo yo clubs 70's- 80's.

Depend how far you go back.

Seeing Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday in league 1 is a bit weird to be honest, both are far 'bigger' than that.

 

Was just thinking prem era myself but go ahead mate.

If Everton go down this season will they be the biggest to do so you think? Who's your pick for that?

 

Biggest team to go down in my lifetime would have to be Manchester United. Although if memory serves me correct, they came straight back up the next season with no competition. In other words, walked it.

Aside from current day City, one of the most invincible clubs had to be Leeds United, but I was young then, so maybe it's just the way it seemed. Liverpool should have been there, but sadly their journey got soured due to events in Europe.

For the neutrals I'd probably name Forest with Clough and Ipswich with Robson.

But no denying what Fergie did for Man Utd is on par with Don Revie for Leeds and more.

It's quite hard for me to judge todays current crop of managers, Pep, Klopp etc.

We got relegated in 1977 and promoted in 1978 at the first attempt.
That was it for us to be fair.

I think Leeds and Blackburn taken the biggest club to go down award in the prem era.

Think black burn went from Champions in 1995, a CL club in 1996 to relegation in 98 ish.

They've never really recovered since.

Leeds went from CL semi finalists and title contenders to multiple relegations in 3 or 4 seasons in the early 2000s.

 

If Everton go down this season where would you rank them?

Id say Blackburn myself.

 

Who were Blackburn before they won the league, I'd say they were Gillingham level before the 1990's - they probably wouldn't even feature in my top 20 clubs ever. They got a bit of money, splashed it right, won a title, then what, buying players again from Gillingham.

Historically Everton are a huge club but since 1986 they've qualified for the CL once and won 1 fa cup . They haven't won a trophy in 24 years and havent qualified for for the CL since 2005, so wouldn't have them down as a massive club.

I would apply the same logic to Spurs, Toon and Villa myself.

Think the only "big" clubs at the moment are Chelsea, City, Liverpool, United and Arsenal as they've all won multiple trophies in the last 20 years and regularly qualified for the CL.

For me...i agree about Blackburn being the biggest cos they'd very recently been champions.

No shock to me, they were like some 7 inch records of their time, one hit wonders. Life did exist before the PL. They are back in their rightful place, as a second division team.

Was a vague recollection from childhood that Spurs were second division, which of course they were, but only the once clearly.

I recall a Glen Hoddle wonder free kick knocking us out of the league cup, I think that was when you were in second division?

He either chipped it up to himself and volleyed it in, or someone else did.

Cracker anyway, was a favourite of mine back in those days, before he got all mad psycho twaddle on us.

Chelse relegated more recently anyway, late eighties last time IIRC.
