The good guys are whoever Uncle Sam is supplying with weapons that week. Quite often, they end up being the bad guys about a month later, so watch this space.
That's often the case, but I don't think it applies this time. This time the army being supplied is a sovereign nation, not just a war band conveniently fighting an American enemy. The only ideology the Ukrainians have right now is independence. This isn't some seedy bunch who happen to be aligned with our interests of taking out another seedy bunch. This is a democratic nation. Now that's not to say that the Russians don't seize the weapons we've supplied to Ukraine and that Russia's puppet government that Putin installs doesn't do things with those weapons that make them our enemies. Either way, Ukraine won't be the enemy any more than Russia is the enemy now. Putin is the enemy- the army is simply following his orders, I don't think Russians want to be at war.
I used this on the Sunderland board and I faced the usual defensive ****. https://not606.com/threads/ww3-how-close.398397/page-21 It's this attitude which makes me uneasy about being a northerner.
Yeah, for sure. That Zelensky guy is a real leader, too. Puts most presidents and prime ministers in the world to shame tbh.
Having read most of the support on here for the Ukraine, I do struggle with the concept of sitting back and doing nothing in this invasion of the Ukraine. If we really believe they are an independent country that is being invaded for no reason by an aggressor. You shouldn't have to belong to a certain group to gain protection. Did we do that when Hitler invaded Poland. Are we really go to deny civilians military assitance through the fear of the consequences of Nuclear attack on ourselves, if so then we might as well tear up the words freedom and democracy now. We could stop the convoy advancing on Kyiv easily, by a surprise aerial attack, with quite devastating effects on the Russian assault, instead we will just sit back and watch the advancement. As the Ukranians have warned, who will be next. We don't even belong to the EU, so the Russians can't use that against us, we just shove NATO to one side, and say we are going in lads, come help us once you manage to crawl out your bunkers. It would change the face of the world, but maybe that's not such a bad thing, let's get it done and dusted now. Football would get cancelled, Liverpool denied the chance of a title, and Everton saved from relegation, oh and that little club of mine. I request that our President @BobbyD put this motion forward to the not606 council.
I've thought the same thing, why don't we just go in and hit them hard. Trouble is, an attack on Russia will lead to full scale war and Putin, backed into a corner may well think '**** it' and just press the Nuclear button. For now, I think the best thing is to back Ukraine with arms and logistical support. And try to support their citizens and refugees as best as we can. I'm hoping that in the background though, MI6, the CIA and Ukrainian special forces are hatching a plan to take Putin out.
I think we should sent over a Not606 Brigade to fight alongside the Ukranians ... obviously I'm too old to go, but I'd be happy to provide logistic support from here (footie score updates etc.) and I'd be with the lads in spirit (probably rum)... Munse would be in charge of the sappers, co-ordinating a network of tunnels, the extent of which has not seen since those of the Viet Kong ... he also has the capacity for unobtrusively disposing of the excess earth in his continually expanding allotment in Consett .. Sucky would be in charge of the suppers (**** all use otherwise) and inspiring bedtime stories about he conquests of Mo the Pharaoh to help give the lads a good night's sleep and sweet dreams ... Ponky could be a despatch rider on his BMX Gaylord linking the front line command directly with Not606 HQ ... There must be other key roles ... happy to get your suggestions lads? ...
In a reverse of that famous Monty Python sketch, The funniest joke in the world, you could be sent to wipe out the enemy with the unfunniest jokes in the world
Tbh I was thinking the same after watching the journalist comfronting Boris Johnson today. She was very compelling. I don't begrudge Boris for the response he gave, but it felt meek compared to what she said. It came across as being afraid of Russia and made us look weak. She on the other hand, talking about a no-fly zone, saying how can you sit back and just let them bomb and kill us because you're afraid of setting off WW3. It did make me think, why are we aftaid, after all Putin would be just as afraid of trying to violate a no-fly zone because he too could set off a conflict with NATO.
If we are going to do it, we need to do it NOW! The Russians have a 40 mile long convoy approaching Kyiv, they must be certain that the Ukranians don't have the ability to attack them, as it shouldn't be that tightly packed. We could do hell of a lot of damage if we strike now.
Save your energy for the pedals Ponks ... and remove the stabilizers ffs, it's embarrassing and the Russians need to take us seriously
If we do that then we really are setting off direct conflict with Russia and then he has to retalliate. My point is that if we set a no-fly zone with aerial cover, then we're protecting a large part of Ukraine and its civilians, denting Russia's advance or at the very least giving Ukraine more of a fighting chance on the ground without Russain planes bombing their armaments. But equally importantly it would mean the Russians HAVE to be the ones who would make the decision to start a conflict with NATO not us. And would they? I'm not so sure Putin wants that tbh.
I think you'd be very effective at deploying that weapon mate Anyway, good to watch that sketch again. It's a classic
Nah fook it mate, fook NATO too, they only do bombs of peace, we need to go gung-ho mate, I'll leave NATO for all the cowards to hide behind. UK v Putin, bring it on. Power to the people brother.
Take a look at SIDAS,'s last post on the Ukraine thread on our board, ****ing heartbreaking. First post, page 3
