The French did the right thing with theirs.
My thought process 100%I've never understood how, in this day and age, we can have something as stupidly elitist as a royal family.
The past year or so has only set that in concrete for me. It's madness. They're not special. They're a bunch of embarrassing ****s.
no it's not you've just been brought up to think that. The tourism they bring would become history tourism and wouldn't be affected. There are no Cesar's left in Rome but people still visitIts the institution not the individual that is important. Bad eggs have been thrown up from time to time but it doesn't mean that the whole thing is bad. They're an integral part of our national identity, are a large part of the reason that people visit the UK, and, for many people, are a focal point of national unity. Charles has got the right idea though, it needs slimming down.

Would you prefer The Duke of York ?That would make Boris Johnson head of state.
You've just been brought up to think they're bad.
Like I said, its the institution not the individual that's important. I know a few people who have had direct encounters of varying kinds with various member of the Royal family, including the Queen, and while the reports are mixed they are generally favourable. All of my family especially the female side all loved the Royals, blinded by the glamour, I have never attended a banquet, but have met three of the Queens children, they were the personification of spoiled brats surrounded and supported by sycophants.

Didn’t the grand old duke of York have 10,000 men? Maybe with that support he could be on the board at Sunderland….Would you prefer The Duke of York ?
What? The institution and the individual? Yes. That's a large part of the reason for the "never complain, never explain" protocol. Can you separate one from the other ?

He's never going to be head of state so it's an irrelevant questionWould you prefer The Duke of York ?
