I had the scoreline right. Just the wrong way round. Looks as if we've had lots of attempts again. 3 steps forward, one step back.
The referee hoodoo at the Den strikes again. How is that not a penalty? He almost caught it. Gifted their goals with shocking defending. Made no effort in first half, had a good start in 2nd half, should have had a pen but then the defensive horror show and capitulated by bringing on Vaulks (why??). Morison comes down to earth with a bump as he had the wrong tactics today against a physical and limited Millwall team.
I'm not sure it's about tactics when there are clear individual errors. I don't think SM is the type to come down with a bump. Important that he keeps the positivity and continue with the progress. Typical Championship game at a difficult ground. I think Vaulks was brought on because of the noted physicality of Millwall. Difficult day but we move on.
There’s nothing to like about Millwall. They’re never likely to be promoted or relegated and just hang around the division annoying everyone with their horrible presence.
Back to the game - speech coming up.... To be fair to Morison, things will go wrong when you try to push on with radical style changes on the pitch. We have to applaud him for his recent player acquisitions and his determination in pursueing that transformation. The way we've been perceived this past half dozen years became an unwelcome slight on the club, but yesterday we could have done with a piece of that. Morison appears single minded and therein lies a potential problem. Self belief in what you're doing is a must, but this is all about winning individual football games not dogma. The opposition on the pitch has to be factored in - it's not as if he didn't know them. We were too lightweight. I like Mark Harris but Uche should have started up top with Hughill. After some stellar stuff against Peterborough, Ralls and Doyle just didn't work yesterday. The first half was strewn with forced errors and Wintle bailed us out a few times. The writing was on the wall half time and principle should have gone out of the window. I never thought I'd say this but I'd have replaced them both with Vaulks and Pack. Rowett won that game by operating Warnock principles and the best of luck to him - they got the 3 points and we got nothing from it. Morison needs to learn to adapt to circumstances - he should have kept his mouth shut over having already done enough to deserve the job.
