They’re like a gang, honestly. A gang with institutional power and uniforms. They even have their own form of omertà like the Mafia and ostracise and go after anyone who attempts to whistleblow on corruption within the force.
I think a lot of them are horrible bastards, me.
My brother in law is a copper tbh. But I've known him from before he became one and he's a good honest bloke. In fact he was on the end of a bullying culture within the station he worked but thankfully he's less green and holds his own now.
You're right though and I agree. One of the things I got from listening yesterday was that there are some who are good coppers but are **** leaders. So one of the most important positions is that of Sargeant, and most are promoted from within the ranks. The problem is they still want be part of that circle they were in before they were promoted and in many instances that gang mentality you spoke of. It just continues the culture which is now protected by one of their own in a position of power within the establishment. So if you're new or not part of that group, you either have to toe the line or be ostracised.
