They were, and they were cruelly denied the opportunity to win the European Cup. I would add though that the season they would have been 'winning' the EC was the season when Liverpool won the league title and the FA Cup at their expense.

Whoever is running the show knows what they are doing. Yes you could spend £200m on a player (maybe even that amount for several players individually) but they are not the players to raise you from where you are now. Get the decent hard workers in and move to safety then in the summer window look at improving some positions with quality to push you higher. Keep that up for 3 or 4 windows and you will be right up there competing for top 6 or even 4. Nobody can do t in 1 or 2 seasons and your owners/CeO know that.
You seen the supporters man? They spend all game laughing and dancing while all we do is throw stuff at each other and fight. Football is about enjoyment and the Africans enjoy themselves every game.
