when I was a lad - it was odd how many bus conductresses looked really tasty on my way back from the boozer. But going to work in the morning they were old grannies!
When you were a lad you went out with ten bob had enough money for eight pints, ten ***s,a fish & chip supper, the bus fare home and still had change
most of that is true. When I got my first old banger ( car - for those of you jumping to crude conclusions) I could put 4 gallons of petrol in and got small change from a quid. It was 4 shillings and 10 and a half pence per gallon. Approx 24p a GALLON.. I also remember taking a new girlfriend to a posh olde worlde pub - and paying half-a-crown for a pint. Bloody hell I thought. 2 shillings was more normal.
When i first started drinking it used to be about 22/23p a pint.I remember petrol being about 35p a gallon.
