This is the sort of incompetence that goes on with civil servants:
My client owes £6k corporation tax
They are also due a refund of £6k for repaying a director's loan account
I ask HMRC to set off the refund against the corporation tax - they dont
HMRC asks debt collectors to chase the £6k corporation tax - they send a letter exactly like HMRC have been sending previously
I've now got HMRC to set off the refund
The debt collectors will get commission for the "corporation tax being repaid"
HMRC dont care
A private business would rarely be so incompetent and stupid

Let's face it, the poor bloke is utterly ****ed if you're the best he can do for an accountant. Surprised he's not in gaol, which he probably deserves to be, just for hiring you.

I don't think that anybody said that there would be none at all. In fact there have been big reductions in EU trade in both directions. Obviously not enough to offset the huge amounts of red tape generated by Brexit though.

Many of the reductions in trade came about because of pandemic measures. This was also exacerbated by the new red tape that the EU introduced to punish Britain for leaving. That red tape is causing trade with the EU to fall, which is good for our balance of payments deficit but bad for EU member states that used to sell lots more of their wares here.

The red tape transition period ended so as of 1st January 2022, there is now a load of bureaucracy that you used to be able to do months after the import but now has to be done on the day of import, including a “declaration of origin” if the goods were made in the EU.

As the EU continues to dwindle into the United States of France, it is astonishing how the millions of disgruntled Remainers are still living here rather than moving to the banlieue of Paris, under the protection of the European Army.

"Incorrigible" is another cracking word, but can't say I have ever heard the word, "blackguard" before. Sounds a bit racist to be honest.

Hardly surprising, English not being your first language. I think the Gaelic for blackguard is just Jock. The origin of the word is the lowliest servant in a household. The word is sexist as it only refers to a man. The trannies will be along presently to demand that Susie Dent sorts that out at the OED.
