Me and the Mrs have two or three weekends away in the UK each year and always make sure the hotel is next to a lake or river. As you say, so soothing.

Or normally so. A couple of years back we booked a hotel on the Thames at Marlow. Very lovely but it was right by the weir, and it doesn't get turned off at night!

I take it that it was a bit noisy then in the still of the supposedly night?
